I saw first the first time what Kessenich/Baninati called the Finalizer. I thought that was pretty sick, it faked the defender right out of his jock.

could someone at least explain this so called face dodge?

Ok. You put the stick in your right hand, like you do when you cradle with 2 hands for example. Then, slide your rigth hand down to the bottom while switching your stick to your left hand by putting it right past your face. This is a good dodge, because it is really easy, and if the defender tries to hit your stick while you do the dodge, he'll probably get called for slashing you in the face.

really?
i thought it was this:
assuming your right handed
hold the stick w/two hands, right hand on top, left on bottom (normal)
doing the dodge;
1. holding the stick, bring the head across your body to your left ear, (basically like a cradling motion, i dont know if your coach ever taught you to cradle from box to box), you want ot bring that head from the box next to your right ear, to the box next to your left ear.
2. take your right foot and step past your defender. meaning, if the defender is facing you bring your right foot next to your defenders right foot, more simply, put your back to your defender.
3. your head (not the sticks head) should be between the defender and the head of your stick. (protecting it from the defender)
4. accelerate past your defender.
you know this is all very confusing its hard to explain in words, but if you try to go through the steps i just showed you you might be able to figure it out.

If you face dodge a guy in a decent position for a shot, switching hands frees you up for an immediate shot, whereas keeping your hands the same way means you have ot bring them back and then shoot. This might give the goalie time to react for a stop.

if you switch hands then its just a variation of the split dodge isnt it?

what is the finalizer?
sumSum: roll dodge has become on of my favorite dodges, I'm a guy who likes to face dodge a lot and everytime somebody squares up against me they always bite to the face dodge. One time we were going up against Fishburne (in VA) and I came up to this guy who was like 6' something, somethin 200 lbs. And i'm only like 5'8'' and 140 lbs. i was the top center middie and the play we were running required me to do a sweeping dodge to the right towards the goal. I did the roll dodge aginst this guy from behind the restraining line and made the dumass trip up and fall down, i went by untouched (but didnt score the goal)...

Change of direction dodge your man. In other words, moving east/est, switdch directions by turning tyour back to me him and going the other way. That's CoD. Then plant your outside foot and take off back the other way. So for example, I'm at X. I'm moving right and you're moving with me. CoD to go back left, then plant your left foot and cut back right around him. Ryan Powell does this move a lot.

I use em all
stop and go dodge is awesome. run full speed into you're defender, look to back out for just a split second, or at least until you're defender is fooled, then accelerate at full speed and your're all ready 10 feet past the d-man.

A Face dodge does NOT include switching hands. Thats a good dodge only in a few situations ex. defender lunges really hard on you (man up especially) then you would face dodge him and ave an open shot.... squaring up on a defender and using a face dodge is pointless. I'm a fan of the inside roll myself.
jmplax31

If you have your stick up like your about to pass or shot and a defender lunges at you thats the best time to face dodge. Gary Gait does a great job of it.

the finalizer....
lets see....
1) start running towards x behind the cage with your stick in your left hand
2) pull in right on the back of the crease so your dman has to deal with the net
3) roll dodge to your right once you get past the net
4) bait your stick and make your defender jump the net and come down hard for a stick check
5) when he does, tuck the stick, split, and run out on the other side of the crease (the side opposite you came in from)
6) diving shot left handed
THAT is the finalizer. Hard to pull off unless you practice a ton, and you have to have your dman follow you behind cage. YOu can also come at the crease from different directions, different hands, etc.

What is the Z step and the question mark?
LiquidMercury16
01-03-2004, 01:53 AM
z step is where ya step in the shape of a z, cut left then diagnol right then back left and your by the defender at least thats what it hink it is

question mark is where you come running in like you are going to dodge, then veer off and back out, then take a jumping shot on your way back out.
livin4lax..this is how i do a finalizer:
1. On the right side behind X, horizontally cradle your stick with your left hand nonchantly, sluggish looking as though you are observing gthe field.
2. Then suddenly and with a burst of speed execute a exploding split dodge to your right and proceed to run for awhile.
3.Your defenseman will be caught off gaurd and if your fast will be slighty behind you.
4.Rollto the left and at the same time switch your stick to your left hand. Instead od going off to the right ,grab your stick by the throat and (head first) scoop it underneath the D stick and go to the right.
I think this is better than livin lax's because your essentially hit them with two stop and go's which by the way is the best dodge to do in an open field. Secondly, the D man has no clue what you have to do and are taught to anticipate an attackmen's moves so chances are he'll bite on something..whatever tho. Millions video on VHS shows all these dodges except the finalizer.

Z step:
running at you man (fast jog to a slow sprint). You plant your front foot and push off diagonally. take 3 or so steps back or untill your d man shifts his wait forward or actually starts moving toward you. At the moment he moves towaard you then you go all out sprint past him. His weight is shifted forward so he wont be able to react and you should have a godo start on him.

kyle, thats great and all, but the finalizer isn't "mine", because I'm talkin about the powell finalizer. thats how its done. and of course it wouldnt be on millons video, its a powell move. It's in almost all the finalizer ads.

a kid taught me a dodge called the "froll"...its a combo of the face and roll, and first you face dodge, either side, and let the D man recover a bit to make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside, then you roll him to the inside, and hes caught completely off guard

My favorite dodge is a stutter-split cause its very deceptive and if done right can leave your dman in the dust...

I'm assuming that roll = change of direction?
I love it, works so much. Because then off of that if you get your defender a few times, you can rocker dodge him, which is completely sell the fake that you are going to change direction, then keep going the way you were going.
If you are extremely quick on stop and sprint the other way, change of direction dodge is the way to go. Even though the defenders seem to suck in this league I'm in, I haven't found one who can strip me yet.

best dodge is the inside roll if done correctly its almost unstoppable..... you need to be moving at a good speed and get a good position on the dman then roll and shoot, it doesnt even hafta be a good shot just a decent shot and your gonna score most of the time. other than that the split dodge is the most effectice, the face is a good dodge but can only be use in certin situations...

Very complicated and hard. From behind the net, run with a 1 handed cradle up to Goal Line Extended. If you're coming from the right, use your right, and vice versa. Now, this is the weird part. You pretty much run in a question mark style formation ?. You pretty much move upwards a little so you have a decent angle at the goal, then curve backwards, then back inwards (pretty much a question mark style movement). A lot of players have trouble with the footwork, and don't curl back inwards, causing them to do a fade away shot---do NOT do that. A fade away shot will kill your accuracy and velocity unless you're Mark Millon. What I just explained was pretty unclear, so hopefully someone like livin4lax will explain it better

Hey guys, the only dodges I really use are roll and face. Keep it simple.
However, I have no clue what the bull dodge and split dodge are. Split seems to be pretty popular. Anyone want to explain?

i think they have a short clip of the finalizer in on www.insidelacrosse.com but i could be wrong i cant remeber which one clip it is but there are sum good clips on there
im really bad at dodges in general, but im especially bad at face dodges and roll dodges. I prefer bull dodges and split dodges. Stop-and-go sounds cool, i want to try that.

Sproll dodge =D
Run with stick in right, plant right foot, split dodge(switch to left hand), then roll back to the right, so your stick is in your right hand.
This is a good dodge for beginners who use one hand only, because you start with your right and end with your right. sort of like the "face-roll, but a split-roll.
