I play lax at my high school and my schools defence is one of the biggest in NJ. (toms river high school east) Our coach makes us do a drill in practice he calls out. the drill is 1v1 against defencemen and if you score they get a letter and whenever me or my teamates goes up on offence the defence beats the crap out of us with crosschecks and slashes so they dont get out. we have had two kids be injured from the drill and many with minor injuries. what do you think the team (offence) should say or do?

Whatever you do say, make sure you don't make yourself look like a sissy to your coach. (i.e. dont whine about the D checking too hard)

Maybe bring up the fact that they are committing penalties, and that it is not going to help their game play if they are always slashing and crosschecking. Not only is it dangerous to your offense, but your D could suffer if they start committing penalties freely in games as well as practices.

Say the good ole' quot Practice like you play and since they are commiting penatlies in practice they are going to do them in play too... maybe show him a circomstance where they scored a goal because of a crosscheck or slash on a defender

you could try to say that it would be a penalty
but the fact is that a lot of "illegal" stuff happens druing lacrosse games
you can't cry to the refs everytime something happens
your best bet is to beat it by scoring goals
crosschecks and slashes require the defense to be very close to you, so if you are protecting your stick well you should be able to dodge past them
they might get in a good slap or two but you should have them beat
also a lot of defensemen throw checks to 1) cover up the fact that they are beaten or 2) that they are so much faster they can afford to be out of position becuase they know they cna catch up
in case 1) protect your stick form the last ditch effort
for 2) draw them out as far as you can and then just beat them with a good split dodge
if you score alot the coaches will tell the defense that they need to play better positional defense, which probably means they won't be throwing as many checks later

well, the Defensive coach might make them play harder, and a bit out of the rules in order to push the offense harder.. When the O gets in a game, and the opposing defenders aren't beating the crap out of them, they will have an easier time beating them..

Kind of the reasoning of this: if for example I took a long pole from the MLL, and had him play against a freshman attackman from a D1 school, who do you think would benefit more???

just like if you took Mark Millon, and had a college guy cover him.. the college guy would get 10x better..

see what i'm getting at..??
