The ball went up my shorts, therefore making the save.

as a dman, i knocked a shot rite out of thin air that might have gone in. ive knocked down many passes to wide open crease attackmen too, saving easy goals.

i have cought the ball in my arm pit before in a game and no one knew where it was untill i walked around to the side of the net and dropped it. The started to clear. Another good one i on freshman many years ago and my coach was yelling at us on the bus ride home saying how our varsity would have shut the team out we played untill halftime and someone said how we were shutting them out untill midway through the 3rd quarter. He laugh and called himself an idiot. The second one wasn't much of a save as a funny story i though i would share.

During a braveheart our faceoff man fell down while droping back, our goalie stuffed the shooter right on the crease, ran it down the field and scored.

i have 2
1) our team was 3 men down 6v3 and i was in goal. in one minute i made 6+saves and 1 defensemen got hit in the head twice and in the body once.
2) the team we were playing was no match for our defense and they took like 60 more shots than my team. their star attackman wound up from like 15 feet away, i made the save in the bottom right corner and the ball bounced off my stick then off the goal and a kid caught the ball and quicksticked it to the top left and i slid up and mad the save with y glove by punching at it. thoose were 2 of my favorite plays ever.

My senior year of high school, we were playing Olentangy who was ranked #1 in D3 Ohio. There was about 3 mins left and we were winning 6-5. Their tall attackman came around X and ripped a shot off stick high from about 5 yards out. I got my forearm up just enough to where it deflected and we got possession. We held on to the ball for the next couple of minutes. We lost possession, and they started a clear. Their LSM picked up the ball and started haulin' down the sideline when our captain came out of nowhere and rocked him into O.B to save the game.

i was a freshman in high school(now a junior) and it was the state championship game and we were winning 5-4 and there were about 30 seconds on the clock and we had the ball and a shortie tried running it up the side line but got pushed out, the other team had the ball and shot and i made the save (forget where it was) then they got the ball back and their star player wound up and gave her some, i stepped to it and got low and it bounced off my knee and i chased after it and as it neared the end line the buzzer buzzed and it was game over. We won. It wouldn't have been pretty if it went it since i was a freshman with all seniors

Happened this morning actually.

I made a save with my body, and promptly clamped and raked the ball. They kept a shorty back, who was doing the classic 'Wave my stick in your face while you're in the crease'. Anyway, I rolled around towards the back of the crease, and stepped out towards the back once I found it was clear. I looked upfield, and they were playing tight D so I cleared it to the Pole who was on GLE. I effed up the pass, and it went low, so the same shorty that was waving his stick in my face intercepts it, sees the open net, takes two steps back and rips a shot. Somehow I managed to get back in goal in time and block the shot, which looked like an easy goal.

We won 11-6. It was one of the only times I can remember where coach called me out in the huddle and said 'Nice Save Ed'. I felt really freakin' good.

There are two that I remember from my freshman year of high school at Libertyville.

1) I think we were playing Barrington. It had just quit raining and the field was all mud. There was a fast break and a feed from right to left about 5 yards out from the crease. As I turned to play the ball, I slipped. As I was falling, I see the shot and reach out to snag the ball. Most amazing save.

2) This time was a home game against Wheeling?. An attack was drive around the crease from X to bottom left. I went to tap the pipe and my stick got stuck. The attack tried an Air Gait, so I jumped out and smashed my glove into the stick/ball making the save.

I don't know why I remember those two the most, but they just stick...

This isn't really a save that was crucial for me to make, but one time this attackman was all alone about 10 feet outcide of the crease and he rips a ground ball shot and, out of pure luck, it went up the back of my shorts and got caught between the elastic of the shorts and my back. I just casually pulled it out and everybody was all confused.

i remember my college goalie in practice.. he was taunting me the whole practice telling me that I couldn't score on him.. then I was talking back.. I rifled one off stick hip side.. he saved it easily, then tossed it up, hit it with his butt end back to me.. it was a perfect pass..

The only save I've ever made:

A kid on the top left ripped a shot low off-side, and I made the save. Nothing special, but I've only played goalie once.

Our team was playing U-13 but the coordinators of this tournamet screwed up and we had to play a U-15 team. We were small and young and these guys were huge and played together a long time. I was getting bombed with a billion shots. In the last quarter, their best middie came down on a fast break and I absolutly(sp?) stuffed him off-stick. One of the hardest shots I got and my best save.

The Hawaii lacrosse club was at the Portland tournament back in the early 90's. Portland was swarming our net, and I took a screen shot off the gloves, hip high, off stick side that rebounded back to my right. The attack picked it right up and shot lower stick side and I kicked it out, then that rebound was picked up by the attack again, and he shot it at the top of the open net because I was basically sprawled on my back in a full split. Somehow, I pushed my stick in the way, and managed to hang on to the ball. Pure luck, but it was fun watching them walk away, talking to themselves and shaking their heads.

We still got creamed, something like 14-3, and I felt like Swiss cheese, but I had about 25-30 saves, and that one took the cake.

What was or were your top save(s) that you have made? Either it was something like a game saving shot in OT, a ridiculous acrobatic save, or just a pure reaction save?

Fortunately for me, one of mine is on the web. http://www.hammersports.info/Mars%20Hill%20Lacrosse-3/photos/photo85.jpg The form is really bad, but the kid was about 7-8 yards out (not #9, but you can see the other dman's stick who was guarding him) and just ripped it. I was tagged in the hand.

One of my others was senior year when we were playing the #1 D3 team. We were up 6-5 with about 1:30 left. One of their attackmen burned my teammate behind x and the coma slide didn't make it. He came around and took a shot on the run right about my armpit. I was able to get my forearm up just quick enough to deflect it out of bounds, then chase after it to get posession. We won the game, 6-5.

So.. what are yours?

One of my best saves wasn't one save it was 3 in a very short period of time. We were playing the #1 team in the district in an insane game, which we lost in the end, but at one point, they chucked the ball down to our end of the field, and my d was being stupid and didn't play them right and got burned. So the other team had these 2 twins on attack who are pretty sick, and they were both standing on the crease one shot, i stopped it with my body, it rebounded over to the other kid, he shot, i got it with my glove, and then it rebounded back over to the first one, and he shot again and i finally got my stick on it, but somehow through that, a flag was thrown on us, so they got the ball back and probably scored, but dude, it was sick! 2 more saves to talk about though. We were playing our cross-town rivals, and one kid ripped a bounce shot and somehow it ended up lodged inside my helmet, not the throat protector, it was stick between my chin and the face mask! It was hillarious because everyone was looking for the ball, I didn't even know where it was for a few seconds. One game I got a ball stuck in my shorts, like it bounced the whole way up and was stuck on my butt. i put my stick under my shorts and did a little wiggle to get it to fall out. Those are my 3 top favorite saves that i've made. I've had other ones that would probably look sick in a picture or a video clip, but those will never be forgotten.

btw, that is a sick picture dude. I wish i had some pictures of saves like that.

Well, I am not a goalie, but we have a play called Moses where the goalie gets the ball and everyone clears their man out to the sidelines so he can walk up unobstructed until or until someone puts pressure on him and then he just passes it off. Well it was the first time we were running the play, and he gets to about the restraining line, and this kid out of nowhere takes the ball from him. Our 2 other defensemen like idiots were too far away to get back in time, so the kid goes in on a breakaway with me in net since the center crease man is supposed to stay in/around the net. He comes in and shoots one, it wasn't really hard since I think he might've been a little suprised I was in there, and I save it with my pole. So I pick it up and clear it, and then 5 minutes later the same thing happens when we were running the play again. Mind you we were killing the team, and it wasn't like we really cared if they scored anymore, but still it was pretty cool.

In this one tournament, we somehow got stuck in a U-15 league. Us being U-12, and me being 11, we just dealt with it and got raped every game. So we played this one team who was extremley large. I had maybe one or two saves the whole game, and it was the 4th quarter. So they get a fastbreak, and their biggest and best attackmen gets it at the box. Hes burns our defender, and takes it to the crease. I come out, jump at high as I can (I'm a foot smaller than him), and completely stuff him offstick. Literally the best feeling I've ever experienced.

Not my best save but my favorites to do, when a kid comes running up the field, fastbreak and he dumps it to an attackman on the crease and you just stuff him. Such a good feeling.

my favorite save was in an alumni game about , they needed a goalie, so i got in the cage for the first time in 5 or 6 years.
i sucked. some attackman was talking trash to me about how bad i was playing. he eventually tried to inside roll on the cage, i was tired of taking his crap, so rather than stay in position, i came out, and just as he turned into me i leveled him. i caught him between me and the defenseman. both of them left the game.
i mean, who talks trash to someone they dont know in an alumni game? he was none too popular with anyone on the field that day, many people (from both sides) thanked me for closing his mouth.

my best save when i was in practice (not that you get real good at the position when you pick it up the fall of your junior year in college) was like buckys, it was 3-4 saves in about 10 seconds. turned the momentum of the game. i really wish someone had put me in goal as a 7th or 8th grader. you guys are lucky...

I dont play goalie but I did at my HS's youth camp that I was coaching/counseling at. One was when I was playing goalie during the 7th -8th grade game, wearing no cup, only a helmet and gloves, I caught a shot between my legs. Another was the same game when one of the attackmen dropped his stick head low and, me being an attackmen, knew he was probably going to shoot it high. He shot it off stick hip and I made a shaft save, caught the rebound and took it down the feild and score. I was older and faster then them so it was fun. My arms took a beating though... ouch.

Box: The worst team in the league did not have their goalie show up so they asked me to play. I went in against the 2nd best team in the league.

Other team clears it from their end. I come out to grab the ball but it takes a bounce off of the boards and goes straight to opposing player 10 feet from the net. Open net. He shoots and I dive and save it. Everyone was stunned.

Two stick out in my mind in particular, one that's more funny than memorable in terms of saving skill, and the other because it's recent, but my memory ain't what it used to be, so...

1) I was playing fall ball in my first practice at Penn in 1990 when, during a drill, I stopped a hard shot from about 12 yards out from Ryan Taylor, a 6-5, 210lb, all-Ivy, all-American middie. He came off a screen so I barely saw it. It hit me square in the chest, and with the old, tiny, Brine foam CP that used to be the state of the art in protection (heh), let's just say that the impact was quite heartfelt. In fact, the impact knocked the wind out of me, and it took me a good couple of minutes to catch my breath.

2) Our last Philly ALL game this season went to OT, and I stopped a wide open stick side low shot from 8 yards out, outletted to my middie who took the ball up. Once around the horn and we scored to win 6-5.

Mine was one during practice when the best attackmen on my team took a shot from about 10 yards away and hit me SQUARE in the nuts. It litterly shattered my brand new shock doctor cup and I was down. It taught me a very good lesson: only use hockey goalie jocks.

john marr, not really a special game. some attackman beats his defender and has a one on one with john. he fakes low and john stumbles trying to go low. so the guy goes to put it over john with a hard shot. john just sticke his left hand up and flicks the ball away with his left fingers. wow.

by favorite series of saves of mine was actually pretty painful. we were playing providence (who's pretty damn good) and on a fast break, my D botched a slide , so the ball carrier had plenty of time and space and just rocketed it from about 5 yards out, off-stickside low. i just abrely get their, and it glances off the plastic and nails me in the ankle......and slides RIGHT BACK TO THE SHOOTER....he picks it up and runs across the goal face, right on the crease...i intuit that he's going to shoot stickside high. unfortunately, i'm still off stickside low. i just throw my body up in the air, trying to get as big up high as possible and he just lazers it at what he thinks is an empty goal, and i just barely caught the edge of the ball with my elbow. it then proceeded to roll right back out into play, so i basically raced the attackman to the ball and outleted to a middie to begin the fast break for us......it was glorious...but hurt.

wo, i changed verb tenses alot in that story

I got the ball stripped from me behind cage and the attackman fed their captain at about the restraining line. He took a few steps and cranked one. I dove into the goal it hit me in the facemask and i was on the ground (not injured just gettin up from a sweet dive) My d-man chucks it down field to an attackman and we score.

In an indoor session last season, attackman 10 yards out cranks in offside hip, goes off of my chest pad and I have no idea where the rebound went, so Im turning around and looking for it. I turned just in time to have a different attackman shoot, it hit me on the side of hip hip, and rolled away. We got possession and scored off the fast break, and won. My luckiest save yet. After the first save, I had no idea what was going on until after the game.

This kid comes running at me and rifles a shot to my bottom right, and i slipped making that save. I lost the rebound to antoher attackman who quick sticked it to my top left, i quickly threw my hands i that direction and the ball hit me on the back of the left glove. Then another quick stick hit me in the chest and i clamped and cleared it. That might be my most memorable lacrosse moment

an attackman cut his way to the crease, then he faked off side low then shot stick side high. i went for the off side low and stopped the ball at stick side high with my shaft. not the best save but it was cool :agree:

EDIT: got a better one. i chased the shot, won it, then i ran up a yard or 2 and cleared it to an attackman camping on my crease!! i ran up and stopped it just in time. :nahya:

Two of our better defenders couldn't play in the game so we our d was a bit lacking. Dman played out way too far, attackman blew right by him, now its a one on one. He was kinda far out and kept running in closer and closer. I knew I didn't have a chance if I stayed back, so when he got a couple yards from the crease I ran out, and as he was shooting I slid down on my knees(it was on turf) so he shot high, and I put my stick up and he shot right into my stick. Only problem was it came back to me because that same defender that the guy blew past couldn't catch a pass that hit his stick. So there was still a goal.

last year in a tournament the ref really screwed things up. me and my whole tteam thought that the other team had a penalty. so I ran off the floor to get an extra man on the floor but when the other team got the ball and the play wasnt stopped and the kid was on a break away I ran back and jumped like superman across the net and made the save with my face.

My most memoral field save...hmmmmmm.....ok, in provincials this year in the semi's we were against the top rated team ( we were ranked 2nd or 3rd not to sure) we had to beat them to go to the finals the next day. and we were 6-5 4th quarter and a kid got a pass on my creese shot stick side low and i snagged it , it was the most memorable save i had in field.

just recently, middie is coming down on a fast break from top left, but it was on an intercepted clear so the defense doesn't have time to set up for the fast break.

anyways everyone is matched up on their attackmen, and my summer league is kids from freshman in hs to seniors in college and all three attackman are very good college players.

so the middie isn't anywhere near as good as the attackmen, so i just yell out "no slide, no slide" and let him come in. he rips a shot from like 6 yards out and i make the offstick hip save and clear it to a middie for a break the other way.

I've got two:

1) Playing in the icebreaker tournament; the game is tied (5-5 I think). It's the last minute and a middie just steps in the box and rips it. I snagged it, and passed it out to an attackman who scored to win the game.
2) It was the first game of the playoffs, and we were playing the first seeded team (we were the last seed). The kid who is often considered the best attackman in the state loses his defender and gets a pass to him right on the crease. I jumped up and stuffed him, then threw it back at him and bounced it off his dome (I think). We still got creamed, but the first half of that game was the best I've ever played.

Mine is was pretty supsendsfull it was 1-1 in a mid season game( by the way this is a 56 grade game)(it was last year) their HOT Sh-t attack man had the ball 2 yrds off the crease with thirty seconds left , he was standing their and decided to rip and my stivck got caught in the net and i saved the ball with my head cleared but it was a tied , but we still went undefeated ( i guess i was a HOT SH-T goalie)
