I am need of some box goalie drills, suitable for a novice age (9-10) player. I have a dedicated goalie this year, but I am can't really incorporate him into many of the drills as I work on the basics (simple throw-catch) with the runners. They aren't up to a lot of shooting quite yet.
All I can think of is
- 5 positions
- throwing for breakouts
- variety of shots
- side to side agility
What have you got?
Cheers KLD.

These are some drills that I found in a coaching book I have. I hope these helps.
Stance
The Drill: Two players pass and catch. Each time they catch the ball the faxe a shot.
The Task: The goalie must be in position and proper stance before the players make their fake shot.
Position
The Drill: Three players pass the ball back and forth in front of the goal. They are to fake a shot each time they receive and if the goalie is late getting into position, the can shoot.
The Task: The goalie is to follow the ball and be in position in front of and square to the ball by the time the players make their fake.
Angles
The Drill: The players are at three different distances from the crease. They fake a shot on reception. Increase the difficulty by using fakes and passing to receivers at random.
The Task: The goalie is to move with the ball to be in the optimum position for cutting of the angle.
I hope those help a bit. I wil try to post some more drills when I get home from school. I will also post pictures to help understand the drills later on. Good luck.
EDIT: Pictures can be found here to go along with the drills above. http://community.webshots.com/album/423620233roVeUH

Thanks! Fakes are beyond most of my players (novice house league) but i can certainly get them to pass the ball back and forth to keep the goalie moving.

REACTION DRILLS:
1) Turn the net around so that it faces the boards, provided that the posts are still on the goal line. Have two players (one lefty and one righty) take shots off the boards.
The goalie's job in this drill is to react to the shot coming off the boards.
2) Have two shooters (one lefty and one righty) line up in the crease position.
Starting with the right handed creasemen with the ball, the goalie starts with one knee down on the ground along the left post facing the left creaseman. When the right creaseman says go, the goalie is to react as quick as possible to the shot from him across the net.
Repeat with the left creaseman with the ball and the goalie along the right post.
