Well I was looking through the 2006 rulebook and its pretty clear about seeing the ball and also rotating the stick from parallel to horizontal and having the ball come out for it to be legal. But............

what about when you have your stick parallel to the ground and you have to rotate it cw and ccw.
How far must you rotate it and does it have to fall to the ground or just on the sidewall, the rulebook says, " must fall onto the sidewall and towards the ground" that ca be taken two ways.

My stick right now Is fine with probably the last rule pushing it, maybe? It rotate it cw and ccw 90* and the ball comes out 9/10 times, anything past 90* however the ball comes out with relative ease. Is my pocket ok because , I just dont want to hurt my team with a 3 min non-releaseable.

In NFHS there is no rule about CW and CCW rotation. However, if i WERE to do it, it should come loose and rest on the sidewall when rotated perpendicular to the ground. But again, there is no mechanic for such a test. We're just trying to be sure it does not stay stuck in the pocket when rotated forwarded or to the sides.

Feel free to have the ref check it before the game. No charge, and it illegal it gives you time to tighten the strings up a bit so that it rolls freely...

The ball should be falling out of the stick as soon as the stick is tilted away from vertical (open side of the crosse leading). The rules require that the ball touch the stop when the stick is vertical AND that it rest loosely on the stop. In other words, the ball should be able to roll just as if it was on a table.

Before a game last week, I was asked to check a stick. The player was surprised when the ball did not roll out. We determined that the raised edge of the seam of the (brand new) ball was jamming in the throat of his crosse! Unlikely to happen during a game, but why risk it?
