Firing Quinn is not the answer. It might be part of the answer, but by itself, it's not a complete answer.

Quinn can only do so much with the team he's given.

It's the GM (and meddling higher-ups like Peddie and Tannenbaum.....seen what these guys did to the Raptors?) that gave Quinn a super-crappy roster, woefully unprepared for the new NHL.

Gone are talented players like - Joe Nieuwendyk, Gary Roberts, Alex Mogilny

Replaced with the likes of - Eric "Egg-shell" Lindros, Jason "minus 25" Allison, Jeff O'Neill...........

When you look at the fact that Joe and Gary were cut loose over an argument about a lousy $250K in salary, and the fact that those two probably could have made the difference between 10th place and 6th or 7th on their own.....well maybe it's not all Quinn's fault. Maybe the GM had something to do with it.

Brian Leetch is gone, which leaves you extra weak on defense coming into 2005-2006? You know you can't coun't on Berg and Belak to be better than No. 5&6. So you need to go find a stud defenseman on the free agent market. Apparently Alex Khavanov was the best available. :whyme:

Team's struggling at the trade deadline. What's the answer? Dump Ken Klee for Luke Richardson and some overpriced Russian deadweight.

The general manager kept Ed Belfour and his big fat ~$5M salary around.
For what? Aubin and Tellqvist combined probably made less than 1/3 of Belfour's salary, yet played far better.

Bottom line - Say what you will about Quinn, but this year ain't his fault. I would have preferred that they organization fired all of the ***-clowns up top, and Make Quinn Coach & GM ! Couldn't do much worse than Ferguson did!

Well, now the Oilers should pickup Quinn. I mean MacTavish is a joke. I reall agree with Rockstar here. Quinn being fired may not be the answer and most likely is only part of it.

He's good enough to coach Team Canada

/me grumbles...just got the leafs email today about it... (I am a trasnplanted Leafs fan living on LI)...
I would have to agree with RockStar...not completely Quinn's fault...and i also agreed with the thought of making quinn a dual role as gm and coach like he once was...

They both are not very good. Eddie has been solid his entire career, which happens to be coming to an end. Their salaries were what they were because they are who they are, and they are not part of the "elite" NHL goalies, or close to it.

Yes, but with Belfour you have an expensive old geezer with a bad back who hadn't played any type of hockey the whole year before..........They had the chance, should have bought him out to get the cap room to sign a real number-1 goalie.

Hey, Quinn was fired because he is the coach of a non playoff team this year. It happens to every coach in every sport. 1 bad season and you done. Usually make the playoffs year in and year out, and don't this year, canned. Not suprising really.

Oh, believe me, I know why it happened. Just saying that only a little bit of this season's performance was Quinn's fault and that the Leafs organization has bigger turkeys who need to be deep-fried.

And I don't see how leafs fans can complain. Myself, I am a Bruins fan, and they had it much worse. They basically (management) gave up on them trading salary away for, well, trading salary away. Glad to see the we got rid of the Art Ross winner and possible Hart winner.
Dude, I feel your pain! Two of the three games I made it to this year were against the Bruins. Both were ugly Leaf wins.

Oh, and don't feel too bad about the Thornton trade. There is no trade NHL in history as bad as one stinker in the Leafs back catalogue.

(Russ Courtnall to Montreal straight up for John Kordic

Courtnall = Team Canada Olympian in 84, perenial ~30 goal scorer and one of the fastest skaters and hardest workers in the league at the time.

Kordic = knuckleheaded goon who was always in trouble with the law and died at 27 of complications related to a coke overdose)

Hey Stegmakk,

Are you originally from the Toronto area?
