Wierd Stick Check

Alright I'm playing in a game against our number one rival and i scored a couple of goals as well as some assists so i get stick check. I believe my stick is illegat, because the top of my head is 6.2", cause my pinch went a little wrong on the top, but thankfully they did give me a stick penalty and i saw them measure the top of the head. So what Im asking is my understanding of the rule wrong that it has to be at 6.5" in high school field lacrosse and if it is suggestions why they didnt call it.

Maybe they just didnt feel like it...or they messed up measuring
