How many gametapes should I send away to colleges with hopes of being recruited? Should I send maybe 4 quarters, each from different games? How much do college coaches usually need to see before they become interested?

Thanks

send one tape of one game and never send highlights

coachs want to see you mess up and how you react to it and change it. And dont send a tape that your playing against a crappy team send a good tape

its different for every coach. one thing i can recommend is putting one minute of highlights at the beginning of the tape...a coach has told me he likes this so he can see if the rest of the tape is even worth watching. send a full game with the camera focused on you for the most part. get a high angle and make sure it is steady (use a tripod) and with a good camera. also, if you want him to see more specific parts of your game you could send in a few different man downs and a bunch of faceoffs or things like that. but yeah they are looking to see how you react to things on the field. do you hustle after making a mistake, do you hustle into the huddle and are you in the middle or just hanging around on the outside, those kinds of things. so don't necessarily edit all the time out when the ball is dead.

My camp coaches always said to do 2 halves from two games. One should be your best game and another doesnt necesarily have to be good, but it should show that you play well even if youre not racking up points. Dont show yourself playing dumb though. Also they said its good to maybe provide a little personal part introducing yourself and maybe saying some stuff like your SATs, academic goals, 40 time, bench, squat, and most importantly what youre looking for in a school. Fitting into the school is very very important, especially if youre trying for DIII.

just a game usually. you can add stuff on like faceoffs, etc. but remember these guys are busy. they definitely don't have time to watch 4 games of you, one game plus some extra stuff should be enough.

the head coach doesnt neccessarly have the time, but the assistants, recruiters, do.

they get a ton of tapes, i kinda doubt they would want to look at 4 games unless you are tops on their list. where did you get this advice of 3 or 4 games?

Send mostly field footy, but keep the box stuff in there to show off your stick skills/ferocity and make it look like you could pull a garrett billings and become an even better field player.
Yeah and 4 games is way too much unless you're hot stuff. The coaches are going to know if they want to recruit you after 2 halves.

you shouldnt send a gametape unless the coach specifically asks for one

that's also true. if you are talking to a coach ask him what he expects from you in terms of film. every coach is different.

would it be bribery to offer to pay to fly the coach out to watch you play and put him up in a hotel. if you were serious (and loaded) that would be the way to go.

That might be toying with your NCAA eligibility. I know if a college coach flies you out and puts you in a hotel you can lose all of your college eligibility -I'm not sure about the reverse.

just put yourself into the coaches shoes.. How much would you want to sit through? what would catch your attention? what would bore you? what would make you throw the tape in the trash?? etc....

Division 3 maybe, but Division One a school is allowed to pay up to a certain amount of money for your traveling expenses.

How exactly would i go about sending away game tapes as a faceoff man? should I cut out whenever I'm not on the field or what?

Really? I thought it would take alot longer than that...

all divisions are allowed to do this. its called an "official visit" and they can pay for your travel and pay for your meals while you are on campus. there are a bunch of other rules too that i'm sure you could find at the ncaa website. you are allowed a total of 5 official visits with division I and II teams and an unlimited amount with d3 or club teams.

What about defensemen. Really what kind of things should we be showing in film?

Show entire games possibly cutting out a lot of the offensive parts unless you're included in it (but probably leave maybe 5-10 minutes of your team on offense just so they can see how you act even when your not busy...if you're sitting down picking grass or if you've got your man locked off)...make sure you play good defense & don't go off showboating if you're winning (by showboating I mean running down field w/ the ball not passing it off to an open attackmen & instead taking a behind the back shot on cage or something like that)....A LOT of college coaches when recruiting look directly for certain players they try to keep their defewnse balanced...a big thing a lot of coaches look or is a slideman. Some people are just better at sliding then others & almost any college defense has at least 1 guy that will slide hard & slide properly. Just make sure you're doing your job & playing some sick nasghty defense

^^^ good advice. only thing i can add to that is if you are man down team or are LSM on faceoffs, you could put several man down situations or faceoffs from different games on there. they don't want to see highlights, but if there is a certain part of your game you want them to see i don't think they would mind seeing a lot of those situations.
