They may also have considered them brushes - did u see them acting like they were combing their hair? Doesn't sound like their wimpy slashes were impeding your progress at all.

If someone wound up and slashed you in the head " leik enoulf that (your) helmet alsmot came off on one" then your grammar and spelling are excused as you probably have brain damage and the ref definitely hated on you and he was wrong.
Happy now?

As poor as the grammar of the original poster is, I do think he is making a valid point (Of what little understandable english that is there). It seems like on many different levels from HS through College and College Club, the slash to the helmet is not being called as much. I have seen some pretty good shots to the head, that make a loud sound as well from contact of stick upon helmet, that go uncalled. It almost seems as if this call is going the way of the dodo bird.

Let me try to translate this first.
During a HS JV game, I was playing defense and I kept getting fast breaks down the field. I was dumping it off and my friend was scoring. About the fifth time doing this, I must have been slashed in the helmet by at least five different kids. They were just hacking at me. We were winning by at least seven goals and it was just a JV game. But the refs did not call penalties on anyone. I didn't really care because it was just JV. If this happened on varsity I'd be pissed. Why do you think they didn't call it?
Now, my answer. We weren't there, so we cannot tell if they were slashes or not. All calls are at the discretion of the official. What YOU think is a slash is not necessarily a slash to an official, and vice versa. Safe to say that if you think you were slashed five times on one play and not a single one was called, either 1) they weren't slashes; 2) the ref thought they were incidental contact; 3) the ref hates you/your team and wants you all to suffer. Take your choice.
In the future, please attempt to spend a LITTLE extra time typing your questions accurately. We all understand occasional typos, but this went well beyond that. Written communication is a tool that will serve you in life MUCH more than lacrosse skills. If I were you, and I certainly am not, I'd work on writing better before cradling.

I assure you that there is not fiat from on high asking refs to overlook shots to the head.
I only keep my flag on my belt if the head hit is secondary to the check (deflection, etc., subsequent to a controlled check), or if it is inadvertent contact like a brush.

You're not supposed to call on sound alone...you'd be surprised how similar a stick check and slash to the head sound.

I understand that, but some seem as if they are in plain sight of the refs on clear stick to facemask or shell shots and they are not called. Sometimes I feel as if the rule has completely disappeared from the face of the earth.

Whenever somebody asks me why I didnt call a slash, I usually tell them that girls lacrosse is on the other field.
Was there any advantage gained by the slash? Did it cause injury? We always call it tighter for the U9 kids as opposed to the Varsity. The way I usually handle this call is to ask myself, 'if he was not wearing the helmet would that have hurt?'. If not, then its a brush, no call. Otherwise we would be out there all night throwing laundry around, and the players would get stomped once they try to play in college.

Remember, contact to the head does not necessarily mean that a slash was committed.
