Ive tried them but dont like them. It really doesnt feel any different when you get hit in the legs, so all they really do is get in the way and put a hole in your wallet.

if you don't feel it hurts then don't get them unless he is willing to pay for them. It really isn't worth it I have never used them and never will. Although I know there is a goalie on this fourm i don't remember his name but he wears them just for practice which may not be a bad idea because this way its less of a risk of you getting hurt before games. I really don't know what it feels like to wear them i just know personaly i would never buy them.

Using them for practise is a good idea. But its still a waste of money. But sometimes in practise some shots just arent worth stopping. A game... thats totally different.

underarmour has padded compression shorts. Not much protection, may be ease the bruises but it wont hamper your mobility.
The thing about goalie pants for field laxers is that looks heavy.
lately I see goalies wearing at least one shinguard on a on atender shin-heck one MLL goalie wore it while winning an MLL championship.

i used them and will probably never use them again...they really do hinder your mobility and cause me to be a little slower on my steps...i dont even use shin guards, yeah it hurts but after you've been doing it for a few years it really doesn't hurt.
you can always try them for your personally review but they are pretty expensive

I think that was Cattrano.
But anyway, I know a lot of goalies who will pad up an area that's already bruised to prevent getting hit there again and making the bruise/injury worse. I've had my knee taped up with a pad before because I had a huge bruise on it and didn't want to risk bruising my patella and being out for a couple of days. Oh, and I had my rips padded up earlier this year after I cracked a couple in a game.
In my opinion, I won't wear extra padding (exception is the sternum) unless I'm covering a bruise or a previous injury.

i have used them when i just started and the mobility is realy good but once i got better i stoped useing them becuase you have more mobility without them wich makes it easy to block shots so you wont get hit in the thighs and stuff but if you want padded pants they are definatily the best choice

I own a pair of Warrior MPG goalie pants, and I dont think they're that bad of an investment. Say what you will about the people who wear them, but the fact of the matter is...they provide confidence to new goalies. Knowing that you wont feel much on a quad hit, may reduce a goalie's fear of getting hit and help him develope his step. I use them in practice and sometimes in games, and so far my record is a solid 7-0 undefeated. I dont think they reduce mobility by a noticable amount. It's more of a macho-mentality thing.

In club ball, I used a football girdle with pockets for thigh pads, and trimmed neoprene mouse pads to fit the pockets. It was cheap, the ball didn't rebound, and it fit under my shorts.

Is this your first year in goal? My first year my coach made me wear shin guards and the padded shorts, but I hated them and got rid of 'em after one game.
If you want something though, Under Armour makes football compression shorts, which have places to put in some foam padding. If you get hurt then put some padding in that area. If you hurt your shin, maybe wear a soccer shin guard.
I never wear any pads on my legs, and I have a bunch of bruises, but it's really not that bad. My first year I thought it was, but as I'm getting older I'm really getting used to it. It doesn't even bother me anymore when I get shots in the leg.

If you don't want to, don't do it. I play with hockey player pants, but put old cut up kidney pads in the thigh area (cut into small plates for easier movement). They work like a wonder.
