i hit a kid against canterburry high school and got called for a 1 minute penalty due to the fact that he was about half my size. when i hit him i had both hands together on my stick and my hands against my chest and never pushed off of him i just bodied him.... my question is, y do i get a penalty for just bodying him that way... it disadvantages bigger players?

yeah.. i'm about 6'5" and every time I hit and finish a hit, I'm sure that it "looks" like a high hit, but in reality, it's perfectly legal.. i feel your pain

High hit perhaps?

So long as your body check doesn't hit him above his shoulders, below the waist, or in the back, it's fine. But if your hands are together and they "happen" to hit him squarely in the head, no, that's illegal. You simply have to be more careful than that, so I guess this is a disadvantage of being tall. OTOH, you have a longer reach and also can get high balls easier, so this is an advantage. With every advantage comes a disadvantage, I guess.

It could also be unnecesary roughness if you're drilling players half your size with excessively violent hits. Put the kid on the ground, but don't try to injure him.

ya im 6'0 and the guy i hit was 5'4
not even that big of a difference
i hit him in the chest clean (no where near head) with both hands together
ref says "watch the head, next time you do that im calling that"
wow i know where i hit people and this ref is telling me the most obvious "do not"

Many members of my team have the same problem as you. I can't even begin to tell you my frustration dealing with the referees when the other coach complains that my players are "too big." I'm sorry, but shouldn't there be a too small when people play as well, otherwise it is simply a double standard.

a) smaller players are often difficult to cover. b) more often than not what you think you are doing is not what you are doing. So many times the larger players deliver what is normally a good hit but follows through to above the shoulders and/or is excessive (unnecessary roughness) against a small player.

i am only about 5'5" and it is an advantage small players have. Im not saying it is right of refs to call that, but i think that is the way it is right now in the game so i would just try to live with it
