Alright, I need to know two things.

What is the exact rule(if possible)

And how the ref is to check it.

I had a ref who shoved with figer through the layer of tap on the buttend called it illegal and ejected me out of the game, to which I decided to curse at him. Now I have a match penalty. Because he broke my stick, so I told him to, lick.... Yeah you get it. Any ways, clarification on the rule would be nice.

CLA box? Or are you still playing spring field?

I can look up the box for you when I get home.

As far as I remember, assessing the safety of butt-ends is largely at ref's discretion . I'm almost positive that it states that the bare metal has to be covered, but I don't remember too much else being written.

Note that regardless of the rule, what he did may have been reasonable to assess safety One layer of tape is not enough to make a hollow metal butt-end safe! For future, beer-cap your stick and throw a layer of tape over the cap.

Also, when he pitched you out, was it a game misconduct, or a match penalty? If it was a match, you should appeal the suspension. By CLA rules, there is no such thing as a match penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.....you can get 2 minutes, 10 minute misconduct, or a game misconduct. I don't think the ref has the power to suspend your foul-mouthed arse in this case.

IMO, Running your mouth at a ref should never be worth more than a game misconduct, and the penalties should be applied progressively 2, 10, game.

as long as the metal surface is coverd you are good to go. I looked in the rule book but couldn't find the rule for sure though. And the reason he got kicked out is because they changed the ruling this year and any illegal equipment is a game misconduct

Note that it might not be in the rule book......might be in the new referee's manual, or in a new CLA equipment guideline, etc.

Slinky said he was assessed a match penalty. Game misconducts and match penalties are drastically different things......You have a copy of the rules, look this up.

he was assed the match for yelling at the ref though. But arent match penelties for intent to injure? My rule book sucks it doesn't say what constitutes a match penelty but slinky most have said some pretty bad things because usually if you yell at a ref and stuff you get a grosse not a match i'm pretty sure match is causing injury.

Nope, no swearing just told him to perform oral sex on me. With a more vulgar connotation. RockStar of course I mean box I'm not a little girl. ( kidding Field guys) Also it took him reasonable force to get his finger through it, like 6 hard stabs of his finger until he penetrated it. Then he gave me a game misconduct penalty. And I told him to .... and he then definetly gave me a match. I mean the fact he had to stabe my end 6 times shoulda told him it was safe.

i would still really like to know what the full rule is, because tonight there was deff a new kid with nothing on the butt end of his stick, could have got him for smthg. we lost... a penalty could have helped

And yet somehow Athabasca has the worst reputation for abusing officials.

2005 rules - Not sure if it's been changed.

Slinky's ref screwed up on a number of things.

It's not explicitly "illegal" to have your buttend untaped or unplugged, but it is "unsafe".

By the rule, the ref is supposed to remove unsafe sticks from the game and hold it at the timekeeper's booth until the game is over (but can give you back the head if it's safe and you ask for it).

NO PENALTY.

Illegal stick penalties are two minute minor by Rule 6, but I've heard some associations have cracked down and added the game misconduct for goal equipment. Haven't heard about this for sticks.
