I couldn't find this in the search engine.
I have only used one kind of mesh, soft mesh, and I am a face off middie. Soft mesh kinda makes me mad because the pocket changes around while I play so everyone and then I get a really crappy shot.
I am thinking about using another kind of mesh, either 7d or cata probably(during the beginning of my season it rains alot, which sucks for soft mesh), but since these are hard meshes I won't be able to push in my string for facing off anymore will I? Does this mean ill need a soft mesh face off stick? And if I were to get a new head to face off with what is a good face off head? I currently have an STX deuce, second gen, which on this site sounds like it sucks. I have never used anything else since this is my first season too haha
thanks ahead of time for all the help

You can push hard mesh inwards for faceoffs. So no, you don't have to have soft mesh on a stick as a faceoff stick. As for good faceoff heads... idk i only did faceoffs in middle school so i cant really remember

Hey man.
It really doesnt matter what mesh you have for facing. Right now I have neon yellow hard mesh (from Jimalax). I used to have 6D, and then hard before that.
I like (worked in) hard mesh, cause its got good hold and I dunno, I just like it. New hard mesh takes a while to get used to cause when you win a faceoff and pick up the ball, sometimes the pocket will still stay pushed in.
As for a faceoff head, its really preference. Some people like stiff heads, some people like flexible heads. Some like pinched (most do) but some like wide. I personally like pinched, semi-stiff heads because its good for clamping, jumping, and going under.
I got a good season of facing off my Evo Pro before it became too warped to play with.
Right now I got an X3 (comes as a complete stick with the Crankshaft) and its amazing for facing. It's got a nice pinch, and its pretty stiff so you can do a variety of moves with it.
A lot of people use the E3 or Answer for facing, but like I said, its all about preference.

there are a variety of good heads out there for facing off such as the blade or proton. as for mesh i would recomend semi hard or hard mesh. good luck!

I would recommend hard, catapultion, or 7D. They all hold up very well in the rain. If you still want a soft feeling mesh for face offs, you can stretch the mesh a lot so it will be almost as soft as soft mesh.

if you're looking for a good faceoff head i would go with the Brine Nitrous it's stiff and it holds up and also i would get some hard mesh that holds your pocket in one shape
get 7 or 8d and sand it, thats my best suggestion

yeah i got some jima 8 diamond and i really love it. i have it on a regular evo with interlocking sidewalls and its the hottest poop out there. all my other sticks are too pretty to use during the rain.. so i use that during the rain and it holds up nice. and whenever i do take faces i use that because i know even though the 8 diamond holds a pocket... itll flip and flop like you need it to on faces

u can push in hard mesh. as for a great face off head use the torque it will warp after like a year or 2 but it is good for face offs.
