OK so heres my rant ! im sick of seeing "parent" coaches that dont no anything about lacrosse but insist that they can coach a B1 box lacrosse team ... cmon everyone you no the kind of coaches im talking about, the ones who show up to practice or games in motorcycle boots , leather jacket, sunglasses INSIDE , and the one piece ear cell phone things ... the ones who only seem to care about winning ..and how THEY look not how the kids are playing or improving , the ones who lie and cheat and then tell certain kids to go knock out other kids ... oh and dont forget the ones who dont even no how to hold a lacrosse stick but insist that they are qualified to coach ... im sick of this, it needs to change ...what ever happened to letting the kids play and not how good a parent or coach looks ?
P.S ...granted there are tons of great parent coach's out there ..thanks for doing a great job ... but im just sick of kids getting yelled at or basically getting told that they suck "in a nicer way " just becasue there coach doesnt no what there doing !

I think if you are bitter about something, you shouldn't hold back. But... if you or your parents have a problem with a coach you should be talking to the association executive. They obviously saw something in the coach that you don't OR no one else had the gumption to step up and volunteer. I presume the coach you are sick of is not your parent?

Guess what. It happens in every league, unless you are lucky enough to live in one of the centres that has huge participation and lots of qualified coaches. It is frustrating, but the option, unfortunately, is to have no team at all because no one stepped up to be a coach. The club can't really do anything because they are desperate for volunteers so they are not going to turn away anyone, unless there is some significant misconduct.

The politics crap probably happens more in the places where there are more than enough coaches to go around. Then it becomes the buddy-system when it comes time to appoint coaches.

Last year on my team there is this kid that is 2 years younger than us but plays with our team anyway because hes amazing and he schools everyone, except his dad is our coach. You know in movies where you see dads pushin the kids like crazy? I thought that was only in movies but the dad is so serious about it, and if he thinks that his son isn't giving his best he takes his stick away and tells him to go sit in the car for the rest of the game O.o its nuts what some people will do for a win even then they're not even playing

not that anybody is ever in a position to make it happen...
...but...
get a copy of John Cossaboon's book, "Let Them Play," and somehow get idiot coaches to read it...
Johnny gives a lot of cogent advice to parents who don't know how to coach, but got shanghaid into doing it anyway...from the title, you can see the author's focus and attitude toward the whole thing.
that's the solution, but good luck making it happen.

Perhaps no one else planned on coaching the team and the team would have folded without a coach? Maybe this person is a semi-hero for giving you guys the chance to play?

I know, our varsity coach fired the JV coach, Shawn Wilkins (former Knighthawk), because they weren't Buddies.

I personally know how hard it is to find good coaches specially ones that are willing to spend a weekend at a certification clinic. The lack of volunteers is were the problem is I am coaching one travel team and asst on another. We screen and release unqualifed personel or problem coaches. In OLA travel you must be NCCP certified to coach.

My dads my coach, and he's not one of those guys. Granted, he does put me out when we need a goal and for powerplays, but that's because I'm our best player. But in the 3-4 years he's coached me, not once have I been a Captain or Alternate Captain.
And yea I do always play B, like you said aobut those coaches, but this year, they Midget A team actually cut me so my dad would coach. I am telling you the truth 100%. They asked my dad before the tryouts and he said, it would depend if I made A or got cut, and then they cut me, and the same night they phoned and aked if would coach.

The parents who always talk to the coaches always get their kids to play, even if they suck and never pass the god damn ball!!!!!!!!! Some kids dad got a kid on our team kicked off because he "hit his son too hard". That is ridiculous, this is a contact sport.
even if the coaches aren't parents, they can still be that bad. I think schools need to spend more time on finding more quality coaches.

I hate coaches like the ones you guys are talking about, they annoy me. I coach a novice house league team and one year I had the father of one of the kids helping out and theres no doubt that the kid was amazing but everytime he did something his dad didnt like he would yell at him and put him down in front of the rest of the team when he came to the bench for a change. He once blamed his son for the goal the other team got because he missed the ball..how horrible is that? Actually the really horrible thing is that I never said anything to him about it, but I did make a point of telling the boy that it was okay and assured him it wasnt his fault. Now I've honestly never played lacrosse, but at least I know what I am talking about and doing unlike the coaches, like you said, "that only seem to care about winning ..and how THEY look not how the kids are playing or improving"....all i care about is that they have fun..this year my team never won a game but all of our games were great games and I made sure they knew that..and they had fun while doing it
