Had this happen last night, whaddaya think?

A1 with the ball gets his stick checked out of his hands. The ball comes out and lands infront of him while the stick goes flying about 5 feet. When A1 goes to get his stick he incidentally kicks the ball. RULING: ?

Even if unintentional, he has still participated in the play without a crosse.

In girls - illegal, can't kick the ball.

or participate without a cross for that matter.

Loose ball technical, just give the ball to B and get on with it.

After a play-on, of course.

Good catch LaxRef, I was gonna say what about the play on?

I've seen a penalty assessed when the player is interfering in the play because he didn't get out of the way. By trying to retrieve his stick in traffic he was playing without a stick.

I started playing lacrosse at the beginning of last season, and in one of my first games(before I was good at protecting my stick, and knew all the rules), I got stick-checked and lost my stick. Being used to playing hockey, I played the man while my teammate grabbed the loose ball. I think the ref knew I was a rookie and just gave them the ball. I didn't get a penalty. :loser:

It was a loose-ball technical foul. He's supposed to give call a play-on, then give the ball to the opponent, no time served. :loser:

Apparently I still don't know all the rules. But its still a good story. Almost as good as the first hockey game after playing a season of lacrosse. Chasing a guy down the ice hacking at his hands/stick. Woooops.

It will take a while. And it will never happen just by playing; you have to read the rulebook.

I'm actually having a lot of fun trolling these boards listening to the discussions on rulings.

No penalty time is required. When you participated in play without your stick, it is a play-on since if the other team gets possession, they have not been disadvantaged, and you don't serve any time nor is the whistle blows (because doing so disadvantages the other team, who already has possession and your team is not in full defensive retreat yet). If YOUR team gets it, he blows the whistle and enforces the penalty, which means he takes the ball away from your team and gives it to the other team. YOu don't go to the box; for being a bad boy, you simply cost your team possession.

This, as in all loose ball technicals, simply means the other team will get the ball no matter what, and no time is to be served. Read rule 6 for more on technicals.
