Ill go with a split. I see it most around here, and its very effective if your quick on your feet, so yeah.

i play center mid, and usually get the iso up top. the split dodge is definitely my favorite dodge. i like it cause its quick and you can really explode out of it. if its done right, you can pretty much always end up having a good lane to run in and shoot from.

my other favorite, thats not on the poll, its a facedodge linked into a roll dodge the opposite way. mike law does it really good. its kinda different though because you step with your stick side leg across your body, it feels weird.

yea my coach says the roll dodge is the best...
i said that like 75% of the time its a split and i just guess the percentage...
and he also said that the roll dodge is the best way to beat a man just because he knew some guy that was so goood at the roll dodge when he was playing.

i do an iso from behind the goal. i go with a face doge, but i keep it tucked and don't switch hands and i go to the goal. if you know what im saying, works every time

And it usually draws a slash because there's virtually no way the defender can check your stick.

I go with either a cut like I am going inside the defender from right attack and then roll around the top with a face dodge, or just a plain bull dodge around to get topside since most of the time I am alot bigger than the defender.

I use face the most, mainly just cause I can explode out of it and almost always beat the d.

I use a face dodge the most, mainly because I suck at dodging

I always use a split dodge or face depending on whether or not they've figured out I'm left handed and try to shade me to my weak hand until I go the other way.

i like the roll... i like to get right up to my defender and roll and shoot off his hip. and then split comes after that because i iso somtimes up top at the restraining line. and i dont think ive ever used a face dodge.

i would say the most used dodge is the split. look at any good player, and momst of them will have a nasty split doge.

the dodge i use most would have to be a roll dodge. i gotta say, its pretty nice.

i hate when people say face and bull... it takes no skill to do those, and usually they score the most becausea defender never knows what to do because your stick is hidden, and the usual people who use face and bull are the huge ones who defenders wont hit, so it just makes it so easy for them to score. then they think they are soooo good. it just annoys me... bull dodges and face dodges take no skill.

My arsenal of dodges is in order from most used to least used

Split Dodge, such an easy dodge to pull off, and you get a fast cut from the guy covering you, also very hard to stop.

Face dodge, Does not always work since some people don't watch the face, but normally gives a little opening for a pass or shot.

Roll Dodge or Rock and Roll Dodge, my personal favorite dodge, but it can not always be done. Really good when driving in to shoot, but can be messed up with a misplace foot.

Swim Move, I love this dodge and it looks sweet but can only be done when cradling one handed, which I do not do alot.

I don't even use the bull dodge,,,, just to easy to stop in my opinion.

i like the split dodge. it works best for me when im about 10 yards from the net since a lot of dmen stand flat footed and then have to turn and run with you. so if you pull a quick split you can just fire a quick shot

kind of depends on where your iso-ing from what dodge your going to use also what position you play but normally when i dodge from the wings or up top i use a split and down by X i use a roll

so you are saying you run straight at your guy and do a roll dodge?

i find it very awkward that people run straight at your guy and do a roll dodge...

I like starting off on my defender with a split.

If it's successful, then I do a 'juke' I guess (I don't know what it's called, but it's a fake split where you pump like you're about to face dodge or change hands, then bring the stick back and keep going in the same direction, it's like a rocker for split dodge). If it's unsuccessful, I try the roll dodge, and progress to the rocker step.

I play attack so I roll all the time. I wait for the defender to throw the hard check in front of me and I roll his misses me and I beat him.

wtf is iso?

The Playmaker
05-20-2006, 08:23 AM
AusLax234, ISO means Isolation. It basically means to pull your man out near the edge of the box and take him 1v1.

Now, everyone says that the split dodge is the best dodge. But in fact, this is not true. There is no "best" dodge to use everytime, but rather a "best" time to used every dodge. But since this is what dodge is best to use, I would have to say a move one of my old coaches used to call the Finalizer. Now, everyone thinks of Mikey Powell behind the net. But this finalizer is more for a 2-2-2 and a middie up top, or an attackman down low. The lateral-adjacent player cuts, giving the dodger more space to execute (we will be dodging starting in your right hand (that means vice versa for lefties, if you needed help there)). Now, for the dodge. First, bring your man to some open space, and do a split to your left and look for a pass/shot. If the defenseman/middie is not terrible, he will be able to just dropstep and still be in position. Second, plant and roll back to your right hand, again looking for a shot. Now the defenseman/middie will have to dropstep again, which is good. Now here is where you "Finalize" the dodge. If you see no 2nd option, you execute a Submarine dodge* going to a lefty shot. By now, your defenseman has switched hands too many times and has taken 3 dropsteps. This is your cue to make your lefthanded goal. You will not have to look for a pass.

*A sub is the opposite of a swim, and is also A LOT safer to do (A-Doesn't expose your ribs and B-The ball doesn't come out as easy). But for the people who don't know what a sub is, it is when you bend your knees and kind of do an underhand "swoop" motion. I wish I had a video to explain it better.

**This is a combonation dodge more than an acuall dodge itself. A lot of college scouts look for middies/attackmen who can take their D 1v1 with a variety and combonation of dodges.

i love split dodges

that and the doggie paddle are probably my most effective moves

edit: after looking at lax1228's description im not sure were on the same page

my doggy paddle is basically a east-west change of direction with a swim move/split thrown in

Split is by far the most used dodge. Because it's a middie's best friend [And liked well by attackmen] And seeing how there is more middies than any other position, I think it wins.
Ask any pro or college player, The three most affected things to excel are a good Split Dodge, Both hands and Shooting on the run.

Split is used the most but I usually use a combination of splits and rolls when on an iso. I'll split and then roll back if I dont have a step on my defender. You kind of have to split to set up your roll or you have to start running at an angle at your defender, like Methlax said, you cant just run straight at your defender and roll, you have to be going east west first.

what i like to do is obviusly start off with the split dodge going to my strong hand i run that if i dont have the guy beat clean i roll back sprint hard around the back to my wrong hand and then if the guys still with me i throw a quick change of direction and go back towards my strong side. it works good for me but i voted for split dodge its my favorite

id say split is most used because of its simplicity and general effectiveness. but if you can place and time a roll dodge or a swim/sub dodge right its so much better, safer, and quicker than a split dodge and gets you wide open.

I play behind the net, and I use a few different dodges. My favorite though would have to be a split right, roll left, split back right, bringing your stick low with your body so you can explode out of it.

The traditional hop-step face dodge works great too.
