I was wondering if there were any coaching materials out there that would help learn more offense and defense strategy. I've got a multitude of videos and books, but the books were published in the late 70's and early 80s, while some of the videos are just as old.

check out the USlacrosse website, I've seen some products there, but I'm not sure how helpful they arel. www.lacrosse.org
I have found "the baffeled parents guide to coaching boy's lacrosse" helpful and also found "the art of coaching" useful. They both had good hints on how to structure practices and even covered hope to deal with disruptive players and parents. I found both at Amazon.

I've got the US Lacrosse 6 or 8 video set, along with a few others, and some books. I'm mainly looking for something that'll help out with building an offense and defense.
on a related note...do you think that D1 lacrosse has set plays, or if each player has sound offensive sense? Their D looks fairly complicated, with different setups for depending on where the ball is, what the O setup is, etc.

I'm sure they work plays but I bet a lot of it is freelancing, get in a formation and work it around for a shot. They've got plays on manup. And the defense definitely has setups. I don't know of any material to help you with that stuff. Maybe try a search on Amazon.
I would believe the offense has a basic sense of what works for them with a few set plays for special situations (Man up), generally after about a quarter one should know what can and can not work against a team or individual. Like maryland vs Virginia in the ACC champ. UM lit up UV in the first quarter then UV made a defensive switch. Your D should have a couple of basic defenses (Zone man2man, etc) I couldn't do that with my Middle school kids this year we ran a Man2Man all year and we still had lots of missed slides in our last game.
