Well, since it is on the main page of this website, I didn't think it was necessary. But, very well...http://www.insidelacrosse.com or http://www.pioneerlocal.com/cgi-bin/ppo-story/localnews/current/he/05-11-06-918671.html

Shamrox? are you kidding me?
that is utterly wretched!
Hell something with Cheese, or Fires, or cows or Wind or meat products or something...would have been better...

Agree. But the creepy thing is, I remember someone saying Shamrox in the name Chicago thread.
I like the Shamrocks also, but not too sure about the way they want to spell it on their website: Shamrox. Sort of taking the same approach as the Lumberjax. Thoughts?
I think he knows something we didn't

I still like my idea...
The Chicago Mad Cows...
ohhh come on...think of the logo/mascot...
But seriously it could have been something to do with the wind...

Chicago Stegosaurus'
Eh Steggs?
LOL perfect...
I guess the Shamrox isn't tooo bad but the way I see it is as someone else said...
Lumberjax now shamrox...
ok...one was unique and interesting...two is stating to get lame...
not to mention without reading some random little known fact, no one associates chi town with shamrocks...
i associate shamrocks with the prestigious canadian box team...and thats another thing that peeved me...think of something yourself

It's got a ring to it, but I never think of Shamrocks - or anything Irish for that matter, when I think of Chicago.

true but it still sounds good and the jerseys are gonna be sweet !

It's not but I think they still could have gone the extra mile and spelled it without the X, instead of trying for the edgy, xtreme X like Lumberjax.
And like steggs, I thought of the Victoria Shamrocks first, which has the history behind it.
Personally I would have named it the the Chicago Bill Swerski's Super Fans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Swerski%27s_Super_fans). Would you wanna go up against a team whose fans are all chanting: Ditka! Ditka! Ditka! Ditka! ?

I still say it should be the Chicago Gust.

This is what it's all about. You have to get the merchandise sales going strong and fast at the beginning. This creates ownership of the team and brand awareness. The general public sees the jerseys and that creates interest which of course translates into ticket sales.
The Rush did it with their 'barbed wire' accents along with the black and silver scheme which the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders made famous (and is the best selling merchandise out there). The Jax did the same their logo and their 'x' on the name suggesting that it's hip.

The NLL cannot be taken seriously with team names like this, Shamrox, The Lumberjax, Rock, Roughnecks (im surprised its not spelled w/ an x), etc.

this is an awesome name. many people dont know that the south side of chicago used to be pretty much 100% irish.

Dude, do you even know what a roughneck is?
Its a guy who works on the Oilrigs. Tend to be big massive gruff men.
And its like Alberta's main resource. Thats a great name.

yeah, chicago, big irish history, just like the mob. i like the name (maybe a little bias b/c im irish), but the X needs to go. putting the X there is just crap.

Thats because you dont have them representing your city!
God, why do both of Chicago's teams have crappy names?

I like the name... 'specially spelt the way it is, 'Shamrox,' it's got a ring to it...
But I still think the 'Chicago Wind,' or even, 'Chicago Storm,' would have been much better... Everyone can relate to a name like that... Naming it the 'Shamrox' is saying everyone in Chicago is Irish(which may be true... I'm Italian/Greek and never left the Atlantic Coast, so I can't tell you if it is or not.)... None the less, I could careless I'm a Wings Fan(and more of a Field Fan =P).

How dare you shamlessly promote field in here Wubbie. :monkey:
I guess its okay. Stegosaurus's would be best.
Nah
I think Hitmen would be a sweet name

it's a decent name/symbol, but i think it sounds too much like the rock or seems too close to lumberjax in a sense. if they promote the team like portland does than their short form with be the rox... which is even closer to the rock? Could confuse alot of the casual fans or newcomers to the game. Plus the shamrocks should be confined to Victoria... it's a classic name and should be left to that team.

just b/c youre not irish, doesnt make the name wrong. that would be like people in portland getting upset b/c theyd think people are assuming that theyre all jumberjacks out in portland. the only other name i wouldve accepted is the hitmen. the wind isnt that great, b/c chicago isnt that windy. its called the windy city for other reasons. stegosaurus's wouldve been a rockin' name too. haha

Being from Chicago I think it is a great name, It's a smart name to because there are a ton of people with irish heritage in Chicago.
Wubbie
05-11-2006, 06:45 PM
Chicago is called the Windy city, Doesn't matter if it's not windy...
And saying everyone are Lumberjacks and Irish are two totally different things. Making ethnicity claims is completely different than making job claims. On top of that Portland couldn't survive if everyone was a lumberjack, money issues would arise and most people know that...
And, I said I liked the name, it just gives off some bad notations... So please don't put words in my mouth.

at least someone has a brain on this site and knows something about Chicago history, the canle systems on the south side of the city where bulit by the irsh that is way its a great name and seeing as most of the city is irsh.

Have you ever been to the southside? Well Chicago does have the biggest St. Patty's day parade in the US(maybe even the world). They dye the Chicago River green and the Southside celebrates hard. Even though i live in the suburbs, pretty much everyone has a little irish in them. Im 50%, which is average compared to a lot of the people here.

well i didnt mean to put words in your mouth there bud, but at the same time, no one is going to think that a name like that means that a city is only that. its the same reason why people liked the name the hitmen, b/c its part of the chicago culture.and speak of if everyone in portland was a lumber jack and money issues, then at least we can say that all the people in chicago can out drink any of the other teams that come through, and eat more potatoes. haha

Thats great! Here comes the Gaels/Vic Shamrocks type jerseys. NLL needed a green team IMO.

I like it I mean the alot of the Nll teams are black or white as the main colour (not Arizona, Calgary, Colarado and toronto) but most of them have one jersey with white or black.

Why is the logo so horrible? I wouldn't mind it as much if they would just not make it so blurry and clean it up a little. It looks some middle school kid drew it. Hopefully, one day the league will get away from cartoony logos. You don't see lions or tigers on a Fedex or UPS truck do you? No, it's a professional business. I don't mind animals or whatever for a logo, but keep it cool and not so goofy. Here is a perfect example of a logo:

the european look is nice for european stuff, soccer, and even outdoor lacrosse can get away with it. the nll has more of an exaggerated look the the nhl. nhl has some cartoony looks to their logos, but at the same time, thats the indoor style. im fine with the chicago logo.

Well, you can't expect the NLL executives to be able to spell right, can you?
Reblax44
05-14-2006, 04:01 PM
Hey Hooligan I guess the Boston franchise is history seeing that Chicago got its colors. What a shame we support the Cannons and we supported the Blazers and I guess thats the end of it. I saw the Buffalo/Colorado game on the duce last night and god do I miss seeing it back in the days of Frasier, ONeil, Tapp, Chanachuk and of course Walter the Assaulter.
Hey as far as the NY team why not play at 16W instead? The Meadowlands are just as good a spot as the Garden(not as much mistique) and Long Island. The Devils draw as well as the Rangers and Islanders

Being from Victoria, I can tell you just about everyone here finds it a joke. Making a mockery of probably the greatest lacrosse franchise ever, not really that cool, especially when last years REAL Shamrocks could have kicked the snot out of any NLL team.
