Ok, so ive got limited stuff like walls and nets and rebounders and stuff, and im wondering something i can do on my own without a 2nd person out in the backyard to improve ball, handeling skills and what not, any ideas?

I live on a hill pretty much so i have no wall to pound on or any of that stuff...

i believe your are asking about defense, so i will tellyou when i dont have money for gas go to a wall.

find a tree and put 2 stakes threw it so that its just a piece of wood coming out of it.

The workout:
Right Hand-
Circles around Stake 1 CW x50
Circles around Stake 1 CCW x50
Circles around Stake 2 CW x50
Circles around stake 2 CCW x50
Chops threw Stakes 1 and 2 x100 (do it like the motion of an M)(each down counts as one)
Figure 8 threw both Stakes 1 and 2 CW x50 (each 8 is counts as one)
Figure 8 threw both Stakes 1 and 2 CCW x50

repeat with left hands

ps this is for longpoles.

if you have a wall or rebounder one of my favorite things to do is throw a ball against the wall righty (running at an angle towards the wall) then make a v cut & you should be able to do an over-the-shoulder catch. while running switch lefty, turn around & do the same back in the direction you came from. i found this extremely effective when i had trouble w/ over the shoulder catches because for one main reason if you're using a rebounder you can aim it to where the ball comes at an easier angle to catch & a slower spped & gradually build up to direct passes basically. On top of that it's a good work out if you do it like non stop for 5-10 mintues as hard as you can

This sounds weird but I swear even when I sleep I dream of lacrosse....Just always imagine all of the different situations you can be forced in to & what you would do in them. For example there are so many different checks you could use at different times but if you're on the field everyhting is so fast you may not realise you were set up perfectly to throw a certain check so while I'm in school (note:UNCdefense is not condoning day dreaming about lacrosse during school...Faultering grades are your own fault & I accept no responsibility whatsoever) I'll even draw little fields on note book paper & I guess you could say study them.....Other then that when I first learned the wrap check I weighted down my STXAL6000 Pro (A beastly shaft I recommend for all beginners) w/ rocks & sand & then i threw wrap checks for like an entire week every day until my arms were to weak to lift! You don't have to have another person to practice checks..I swear I play best on my imaginary friends & they'll vouge for me.....?????? :nofear: :dummy: :nono: Alright that was a little corny but you get the point

Keep in mind that you play defense with your feet, and a facility for ground balls is a valuable asset.

Take your stick and fill the shaft with sand. Get a ball and take a training run carrying the ball in the weighted shaft. Run half way with the stick off hand. Whenever it is appropriate, roll the ball out and practice ground balls - exploding to and through the ball.

Try to run to or by a suitable wall, and catch 100 in a row with both hands.

Since you live on a hill, build your speed and explosiveness by running hills as much as possible. Run them facing NSE and W. As you probably know, a defenseman who is as fast running sideways as his attacker is running forward is going to be hard to dodge.

You build quickness running up hills as fast as possible, and you build speed (that top gear thing) by trying to get up in as few steps as possible. Going down burns like crazy, but you're building a firm chassis - sturdy reliable wheels - by doing that.

The result will be an alarmingly quick defender who handles his stick (once you empty the sand out) like a feather and is a monster on ground balls.

I live on a hill too and I hate it. I have quite a bit of land too, except its all slope. Grrrrrrr :hot:
