I saw it...first thought...hey cool...
Then thought...dank move and he would be sitting the next game because of it (if i was coach)...
Kind of a sh*!y showboat move...team is up and has the game in the bag...and you pull a flip...
If I was the D man I would have just pummeled him after that play...

I couldn't really vote because while I thought it was showboating, I thought the move was pretty sweet none the less.

you COULD put no opinion.
anyway, i think that since he made a promise to his fans and to his mom that he would pull The Move at the dome, he had to keep it. and what better day than senior day? it was all in good fun anyway. and isn't that what lacrosse is all about? fun?
but you know what's showboating? going on a 13-0 run in the semifinals. although any team would do that...

It was showboating but whats soo wrong with that. I mean he was doing what a lot of athletes are afraid to do and put on a show. He was there to win and please the crowd and he did both. but yea if I was on the other team i wooda mesd him up.

since i'm the kind of player that i am, i'd be happy to be on the field when powell made that move, even if i did play for UMass. but if i were a reckless UMass player, yes, i would've hit him. but i don't think they really cared because the game was over anyway. might as well let powell put on a show while you're at it.
but they kinda messed up steve vallone's jaw last year. i'm not sure if they wanted to go 2 for 2. UMass and SU didn't take too kindly to each last year. and when i say UMass, i mean the fans. and when i say SU, i mean powell, but more specifically, powell's hair....man, that was a great game. powell was funny in that game.

I just like to stir the pot...not saying I hated it...just want to spark more convo than...man that was great...
cause think about if you were the other team...
I just do not see it as a legit move...wasn't an air gait crease dive...wasnt a through the legs because those shots can be decieving to goalies...this was just a flip before a shot...not a real move...most "moves" have a purpise...this didnt really besides to show off
WarriorLax22

that's true. if he shot it in the middle of the flip, it probably would've served a purpose. but the percentage of nailing that shot is .0000000000000000001% since you won't get a good look at the goal. and you can't control your arm in a flip.

I do agree with that, most of the moves that people do/make up actually serve a purpose the flip on the other hand served to purpose.

now THAT would have been a move...shoot while in mid flip...
WarriorLax22

it would've been sweet. maybe something sonic the hedgehog would do. but i mean, it's his senior season and he'll never get to do something like that again. people should have some understanding like "hey, let's just give it to him."

warriorlax, do you have a pulse? your opponent just humiliated you! powell said UMASS you suck so bad, i'm not going to take this game seriously, its just a circus to me. personally i'd rather they run up the score than pretend it some sort of harlem globetrotters BS. yea, if id's been within 5 yards (scratch that--15 yards) of him when he tried that, we'd be talking about my 3 minute-non-releasable Unnecessary Roughness penalty.
hes clearly one of the most talented players in the game today, that's no reason to act like a punk.

It's still too bad that he missed, if he would have gotten it, it would have been awesome, it was awesome even if he didnt make it.

Yeah, it's really not that much of a "move". If you read one of the recent articles on the "thedailyorange.com" the story before Powell's flip is a an entire piece on Cuse EMBARASSING U. of Albany. encouraging their goalie to shoot. Throwing unnecessary behind the back passes. The arrogance of the players and Desko on display in that article is mind numbing.
A flip isn't a move. It didn't get him a better shot at the cage. It's an incredibly athletic move and it looked cool to be sure. But save it for a trick shot contest, not a game. I wonder how all those players on the bench felt that hadn't played all game, or all season for that matter. Why keep your starters in all game in a blowout? Just to let someone pull a "move" in a 5-4 situation? To fulfill a promise to your mommy?
I mean don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we're all talking about it, but unless it gets on sportscenter like that save earlier in the season it's not going to be a big deal anyway.
Sounds like spenny and I see eye to eye. I have a post about necessary enforcement on the other thread about this: Mikey did his flip (http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4534&perpage=15&pagenumber=2) .
shiftylax also makes a good point. How about putting in your team's Rudy type players and career benchwarmers in the last two minutes rather than letting your superstar player insult your opponent? It means a lot to those reserve players to take the field for those last couple minutes.
And why all this talk of, "if it went in..." BS? If he didn't do the flip, Mike's shot probably would have at least been on cage. This reminds me of the "if Brad Dumont's behind the back shot would have gone in, that would've been so awesome!" talk. If Dumont had quicksticked, like he should have, Princeton might not have lost the 2002 Championship to SU (they lost by one).
If you want points for style and showmanship, go take up figure skating.

They did put in back up players at this time. In fact one kid scored two back-to-back goals at the end of the game which were his first of the season. Mike Powell was also out for about three minutes, before he was let back on the field, with under two minutes to go to do his flip.
And yes, its not a move, just a little trick he could do and he did it for the fans, being the last home game. And, yes it does not make him any better of a player in anyone’s eyes, it was just a little trick.
Besides, he did not pull off the best move I've ever seen him do.
Two years back the three powell bros, had an interview with some kids news thing. Knowing they would be on I taped it. Mike in the clip not only does his "flip" but then takes the ball to goal from behind, takes a high jump in the air, puts the stick between his legs(just like in basketball) and slams it air gait style in the upper corner. The most ridiculous move I've ever seen, and I promise if he had done that in a game, without the hype, the whole lacrosse worlds jaw would be on the floor for a week.

For as much as he hyped "the new move" that was pretty lame.

I think the papers, were the ones that over hyped the thing. Originally when powell was talking about it seemed like a gimmick to get people to come to the games, and after awhile when everyone expected it, he said that he "wanted to get it over with" so everyone could see. Again its not some trick play that gets him closer to the goal, or embarrasses a defender, and he new that going in to it. Just a little trick for the home crowd on senior day, when they up by a lot of points. Everyone has to stop taking it so seriously.
