No you use the conditioner afterward, it helps to break in the pocket. If you use it before the mesh will probably be all greasy or atleast I would assume, I have never used conditioner on my pocket.
Anyways before you string it be sure to stretch out mesh.

work the mesh, tahts about it thats all the pre stuff. other then that make sure you get the side walls right, it took me 5 times before i acutally understood how to string 10 diamond on my profile. then after you get themesh on, get it wet again and start pounding the crap out of it. shootin sting then your done.

stx is the worst mesh ever created.

stx mesh is horrible. It is very hard to break in. I bought it and couldn't break in the pocket at all.

Warrior hard mesh is good. I like it better than STX's. When it gets broken in, it gets pretty soft and holds well. Plus, the stringing kit comes with a good manual.
Both lax.com and laxnation have sample mesh stringing tutorials buried on their websites somewhere. They vary slightly but no one way is correct anyway. I personally thought the lax.com was done well.

I use STX mesh (at least, I figure it is since it came with the STX heads) and it works alright for me. I don't really like it getting soft anyways, because then what's the point of getting *hard* mesh. It's supposed to be hard to break in....if it wasn't, it would be called "massaging in" or something that sounded a whole lot easier. Also, I figure (I could be wrong, since I've never compared the two side to side) that the longer it takes to break in, the longer it'll hold the shape...
