As long as we're discussing influential albums, how about this one? Not having this is a serious flaw in my collection.

Go down to May 16.

Here's the album cover. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bb/PetSoundsCover.jpg/200px-PetSoundsCover.jpg)

Pet Sounds is a 1966 album recorded by American pop group the Beach Boys. Often regarded as the masterpiece of composer-producer Brian Wilson, it has been hailed as one of the best and most influential albums in popular music. In 1995, nearly thirty years after its release, a panel of top musicians, songwriters and producers assembled by MOJO magazine voted it "The Greatest Album Ever Made."

No, I don't know what "the greatest album ever made" was. There are too many contenders for that.

I don't know.

Brian Wilson - SMiLE was pretty dang good.

Its hard to say cause Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band came out around the same time, ARGH.

Persoanlly I prefered SMiLE over the Beach Boys discography, though there is something to be said about driving to the beach in a convertable blasting them out the stereo that puts a smile on every motorist around you of every age.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS THREAD!

Good vibrations wasn't released until the Beach Boy's put out Smiley Smile in 1967. It was the first song they did after Pet Sounds, in fact it was recorded after Pet Sounds and before the SMiLE sessions (which was before Smiley Smile), so technically it could be considered a Pet Sounds era song. It was definitely directly influenced by the recording style, and process of Pet Sounds.

SMiLE was suppose to be the Beach Boy's follow up to Pet Sounds, but was scrapped in 1966, and not finally released until 2004 by Brian Wilson. If Pet Sounds hadn't come out, music wouldn't have been the same. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club was heavily influenced by Pet Sounds, and the Beatles openly admitted that.

Pet Sounds, whether your personal favorite Beach Boys album or not, is definitely the most influence collection of music Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys ever put together, and in my opinion should be considered the greatest Beach Boys album because of that.

If you say you love rock music, and you don't own Pet Sounds...you lie.
