I started this thread just to see what everyones take is on the new goggles rule.

Personally...I am a division I college player and I do not like the rule at all. Last season alone I was hit in the face twoce. Once by a stick that required stitches and once by a ball where I got a broken zygomatic arch and a concussion. I would still choose not to wear goggles. Yes there are very catastrophic risks to playing lacrosse, but I feel that when someone signs up to play they know these risks. If they did not like those risks, they would not play. I do not think that the proper people were asked their opinion about the issue before the rule was put in place. The people who made this decision are not those who out a stick in their hand everyday and run around out there on the field. Personally I hope to see another change made and goggles are taken out of the picture. Women's lacrosse is such a beautiful sport and I think that it is going to be completely changed now.

amen! but since there's no way they're gonna change it, since they have their mind set, i guess i'm ok with it. i mean, the goggles are only gonna make our game a lot more physical, since we don't have to worry about hurting a person in the eye. yea, its gonna completely change our game, but i'll learn to deal

yeah I guess it is just something that we are going to have to deal with. I went and tried on the wire like cage ones that debeer makes. They arent too bad. I heard though that there may be a committee that is set up to make the rules for collegiate game. Do you know if this is true? I don't know where I heard it, but I think that they were creating a new governing body of the collegiate game to rid the goggle rule. I don't know if it is true but I sure hope so!

i haven't heard anything about that, but i hope its true! the goggles are ok i guess, there's not much periphial vision, even with the wire ones.

Thank you!!!! I wish that whoever made that decision would have just listened to what the players thought before they decided.

i don't think any girls lacrosse plyr agrees with the rule.. maybe the ones that have been wearing them for a while, but still, maybe they should have polled us or soemthing!

I have yet to meet any women's lacrosse player who agrees with this new goggle rule. I am an avid supporter of leaving the game the way it is and not introducing goggles. What enrages me is I've read an article that was in US Lacrosse where the people who were on the rules committee agreed that there was not enough evidence to support goggles but that they felt they were necessary anyway. They are not doing their jobs in my opinion because I have been witness to and part of games where the players wear goggles and the games are more agressive than your average "game without goggles." If the rules committee wanted to protect the players they should have gone to the players and asked them what we wanted. As players, we take responsibility for our actions and must understand the risks we take when we step onto the field. I feel wearing goggles should be an option to the player, not a mandate. I agree with the Terrier girl.

I have heard that there might be a seperate women's college lacrosse rules board. In my opinion I would think that if this board were to be established that they would not mandate goggles as it would be understood there is much more skill at the collegiate level and eye injuries are much less apparant.

Anyway I've responded to a similar post at the Brine boards so if you want to read my continuous raving read it there. The wire mesh goggles though I believe are by Cascade, unless DeBeer is coming out with ones I have yet to know about.

Ok so I did some research tonight....and just to let you all know; the people who came up with the idea to put goggles on women is a group of doctors in California who are on the board for the NCAA safety committee. Ten bucks says that they have never even seen a women's lacrosse game. Just decided that a rubber ball flying around in the air was not safe. I have played lacrosse for 12 years, coached for four, and have just seen a lot of games in my time as a lacrosse fan, and I have yet to see someone get hurt. Yeah it happens but not all that often. Urgh...its just frustrates me that all of a sudden after al these years they have to start making rules like this. A bit ridiculous in my opinion.

in my 5 years of lacrosse, i have never seen an eye injury. i've seen broken noses, and concussions, but how are goggles gonna prevent those? why don't they just bring out the full padding for us then!

OH GOD...don't give them any ideas!!! I would be really interested to see like years from now if they do start doing that. I wouldn't be surprised.

Does anyone know if it is an international rule now...or just US lacrosse?

i'm assuming it's just the usa since it's a uslacrosse rule. :\

the game WILL be a lot different. i've played some long island teams that wear goggles, & they play a much more agressive game than the rest of the players.

I agree with you. I've played against teams from LI (the LI Yellow Jackets to be specific) and they play more aggressively. I do too though, because they are wearing goggles. Its just a factor the safety board probably didnt think about. I heard in Mass they had helmets but changed it because it was too violent.

First off, I totally disagree with the new goggle rule. I've never seen an eye injury in all the lacrosse games that I've watched and played (but then I live in the West coast, so it might be differnt from the East coast, where lacrosse is played more). However, a lot of my friends who come home from colleges say that it's totally rediculous, and they see no point in it. It should be an option, not a rule in my opinion. I heard that it all started with some guy whose daughter wore glasses, and got hit or something, and he went and petition to make it a rule. Evedently it worked .

well since we're gonna have to wear them in 2005 when its mandatory... even tho i think we're gonna start wearing them this up coming season to get used to them. i personally think i'm going w/ the iris goggles.

this is what i think: If you're going to make us wear goggles, then give us all the padding, helmets, pockets, and let us hit each other! Good LORD! I'm soo sick and tired of the lacrosse community thinking that girls who play lax are "fragile" and can't take agression! I'm not saying that I don't love girls lax (I do, heck I play it!) but if they're gunna make us wear those goggles (which I had to wear in HIgh school... and they DO increase aggression) then why the heck don't they just let us play guy's lax. Sorry, I'm kinda bitter cuz I'm just sick of everyone who runs this game thinking that us players are not tough enough to handle physical contact. I've had an eye injury from lax and I still don't agree with having goggles, but, like what laxbabe said, it's a done deal and they're not getting rid of em...... just gotta suck it up and smile.

i am DEFINITELY going with the iris - that's the only way to go, because otherwise you are stuck when it rains. :\

my friends tried them out at the charm city tournament in baltimore, where they were selling them, and they all say you have a few blind spots & it is sort of hard to see.

they're mandatory for NCAA play for 2004, i dunno about High school tho.....

The best part about this whole goggles thing is that we hafta wear the irises when we go on our spring break trip to St. Thomas....Imagine the tan lines our team is gunna get from those things

i'm not sure if they're mandatory! that's what everyone's been saying!!! but.. so far, i've heard 2005, and then 2004! what's the real deal!?!? yikes. one of us has to find out, and clear up all this confusion! hahha GREATTT TAN LINES! laxchic-you gotta take a picture of your tan line, so we can post it up here! hahh that'd be so great.
