I had a new one recently: I had to call illegal procedure because the coach called two consecutive timeouts, and the rules specify that the timeouts must be nonconsecutive. In other words, he called two timeouts without the game restarting between them.

What I've never been able to determine for sure is if the "nonconsecutive" provision prevents Team B from calling a timeout after Team A calls a timeout (without play resuming first). Because it's not clear, I *would* allow Team B to do this.

While I thought this was a pretty arcane call to have to make, my partner was right on top of it and said he would have made the call iif I hadn't.

I believe it's allowed. It says "A team shall be limited to four consecutive timouts" That wording makes me kind of think that it would be okay for opposite teams to call them. But I assume that the purpose of the rule is to keep this from happeneing. If it happened to me I wouldn't do anything.

It's not clear. Strictly speaking, a consecutive timeout without further specification would mean that Team B could not call a consecutive timeout after A. But I think I'm with you, Harold. I would probably let Team B call it.
