I think that its wrong for a good team to crap all over a team thats worse. Yeah im all for high scoring games and if u are better put liek 10-15 on them but i was reading the paper today and saw the highest score ive ever even heard of Garden City 34 - New Hyde Park 0. I mean come on what team puts 34 goals on another team they shuda stopped at liek 20-25 the highest. Running up a scoreboard liek that is really not a very sportsmanlike thing to do. Its embarresing for the opposing team to lose by 10 but 34!! Thats insane. post what you think about that do you think its right to dominate a team liek that? or do you say stop scoring after you have compfortable 10-15 goal lead? Also nothing against Garden City becuase I think everybody on long island respects them for their domination and their coaching staff for building such a lacrosse powerhouse, but if you look at newsday.com (Long Island newspaper website) and look at the scores for Garden City lacrosse they put up 20 on most teams like its nothing, when the other team only manages a few goals.

Yea Garden City is good, and thats just a joke. If i was on that team i would not shoot, even if coaches told me to. I played in a game that i won 19-1, at some points i just ran across crease and chose not to shoot, why pepper my stats by driving a team into the ground. Lame

garden city is ranked 9th in the nation by STX/Inside Lacrosse, and they were facing a below average team(like somewhere in the 1600's according to laxpower). they were also probably using only their left hands or something like that too. their subs are also probably much better than the other team.

Why would Garden City even shedule a team like that? I mean, it does nothing for the power of their schedule and just makes them look like jerks when they are unable to help demolishing the other team.

Wow they got owned, but I agree that its not very sportsman like to keep uping the scoreboard like that, the other team knows they lost, don't rub it in. Have mercy!!

Don't judge by the scoreboard alone.

Some games are so mismatched that you can't help scoring......even after you dial down the effort.

you can help scoring ive been on the winning end of a one sided game and even when our back ups were in we still chose to work the offense and try to practice new plays. But the score wasnt even close to 34-0 we wound up winning 18-4 against a team that if we wanted to we couldve scored 35-40 goals against. Hahaa even what i just said though is kind of mean the better team just tries to wrk plays with back ups and the losing teams still ahs their starters out their trying hard.

you can help scoring ..........
OK, you can help scoring. It's actually easy when there's no shot clock.

Thing is, by just ragging the ball and not shooting at all you're making the other team look even worse.

Best thing to do is work on some of your multi-pass plays and just aim all the shots right at the goalstick, or the goalposts.

I live in Irvington NY, we played this private school and we even used 6th graders on our team (this was on modifided) We relized how bad they sucked, and we stopped shooting after 3-0. 3-0!!!! And those jerks got in 34 freaking goals against that team. That is pathetic of them.

Dean Gibbons of Garden City broke the Long Island single season scoring record today with 89 goals this season in their 20-2 win over Jericho. INSANE! first of all 20-2 Garden City does it again just goes out and embarreses weaker teams!!! But 89 goals in a season great job Gibbons, no matter what team your on 89 goals in a high school season is hard work and great skill. But Garden City cmonnnn already. Excelent job by John Jay Lacrosse on being the only team to shut Garden City up this year so far and South Side played very hard against GC this year only losing 8-6.

we won our last game 19-3...it was pretty much a practice. i was talking to my team about it at practice yesterday and everyone agreed it WASNT running up the board, it was actually a good team, just they had a bad goalie, so almost every shot went in. and we took it a wee bit easy and made 3 or 4 passes before shooting.

I agree they should have never even played them

Well I don't think they have a say in whether or not we play them, there's teams like that in IL and they don't have a say...
However, maybe they should've like had a lower level play that team or something...

thats just low for Garden City. I respect their program for its consistent national talent and recognition, but they had no need to score 34 goals against a weak team just to prove it. That's extremely poor sportsmanship and I am disappointed with the coach for letting his players run up the score. If my team is ever up by 15 or 16 we stop shooting completely. On Wednesday at our game, we were up by 15 with 10 minutes left and we just held the ball and passed around on offense until the end of the game. From the sounds of it, GC should have done that for the whole second half.

Three points

1) Having you guys control the ball for 80% of the game and not shooting is just as humiliating as running up the score

2) You're wasting a good chance for working on playmaking and conducting live target practice*.

3) If you end up tied at the end of the season, and it comes down to goals for/goals against as a tie breaker, you're going to feel stupid, because every other team in your division is going to run up the score on the weak team at least a little bit!

*For point number 2, here are two things you could do
a) Stop your attackers from shooting until they make five clean passes (It's hard even against a pathetic team). After they've made five, have them shooting for the posts at the low corners.....some will go in, that doesn't matter.
b) For the second half - make your attackers play pole, give your poles and defensive middies a chance to make plays from attack, and let your starting goalie play as a runner. If nothing else, it gives everyone a chance to appreciate the other guy's job more.

we were playing a school we easily could have beat 30-0, but our coach at half time (it was 15-1 at that point) that we can score 19 goals, but whoever scores the 20th goal is going to be benched for the rest of the game, and the next game as well. he emphasized playing smart, and trying some things we normally wouldnt try (crazier plays, etc). what's the point of trashing a team anyway....i feel a lot better about a game if we win by 5 or 10 than if we win by 30

Anybody in NorthVA who knows about Wakefield, they are not good at all. But play with heart which is respectful. But then Loudon Valley goes and drops a 40-0 score on them, which is just way outta line, just like these Garden Park people. USC Imo

It seems that this Garden City team is really good, and regardless of it being 34 or 20 points, it still seems like they are going to be going to the playoffs regardless.

to point #1:
NO, IT'S NOT! If u don't run up the score, than u don't make national headlines for doing so, and therefore the losing team doesn't get pasted on these very forums for it...so no, it is not as humiliating to stall it, b/c no one remembers a 10-0 game even if one team could of had 20 more.
to point #3:
LaxPower instituted a 10-goal rule this year, meaning a team cannot be favored by more than 10 in their rankings...so 10 goals is as many as u need to win by...10=20=30=100 goal margin. also, as LaxPro mentioned, this team is making the playoffs and doing fine, so it doesn't seem like they need a super high ranking.

I'm from Prince William County where lacrosse is quickly growing and when my school first opened (about six years ago), a coach of an opposing high school ran up about 20 on us. So because of the northern Virginia housing boom, more schools need to be opened. When said coach went to a new school and started their program, we ran 20 up on them. :nahya:
