The second sentence talks about Ryan Burns from Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, TN being recruited to University of Virginia. This is exciting news to me, since I am from Tennessee myself. I'm glad to see that big time colleges are starting to look at the south a little more. I believe Ryan Burns will be the 5th or 6th division 1 player from TN.
This thread needed to be posted in the recruiting forum. I tried to post it there, but it said i did not have permission when I tried to post, so If the mods would like to move it to the Recruiting forum, feel free.

YaI think it's great.....as lax continues to grow colleges are beginning looking in more of the Southern States as well as the Northern....The furthest South D1 college I can think of is UNC & they recruit largely from the North (like any other school) but it's cheaper for them to recruit from NC. So as the lacrosse skill in the South continues to grow not only will colleges start looking more at recruiting in their home state (as UNC has been doing more of lately) their will hopefully be more Southern players going up North to play D1 ball as well. I think the final big push to get a large number of Southern players to get recruited to a D1 school will be when one of the Southern teams proves their worth & makes in to the top 10 schools...Perhaps this Summer at the high school showdown would be a perfect opportunity....???

yeah more and more guys from non-traditional areas are going D1 every year. coaches are looking for athleticism and to get the best athletes you have to broaden the group of kids you look at. coaches will probably make more effort to get the real good guys from new areas because if they can find a "diamond in the rough" thats an advantage over other schools. if you limited yourself to baltimore, long island, etc. you would be missing out on a lot.

Memphis university school is consistently in the top 50 if not 20 schools in the nation, the talent is definatly starting to spread, this is unfortunatly bad news for me as im in MD... i sort of liked it when they only looked here

No I dont think im gunna be goin back there next year, but ill be playin lacrosse in memphis. There are plenty of other good schools in TN too. MBA and McCallie are good. I also think there are some good players at CBHS to, but that might be because I went there.

yea i'm from GA and i hope someone from here gets recruited soon up north...i really would much rather play some DI-DIII lacrosse rather than club like GT Tech and UGA...i know there good but i think playing for any divisions team up north would be better

For the past few years there have been a couple of GA boys who have gone up north, but last years class was probably the first strong one. Alot of guys went DIII and maybe one or two went DI? But this year, Neal Hicks is going to Notre Dame on scholarship. Like on one of the other posts he got noticed largely from going to camps. When he was at the Notre Dame camp last summer, is when he actually got his offer to play there, he also got some other offers because of some of the other camps he went to with Team Georgia.

i heard about that guy from mba geting recruited and it got me really excited. i guess it made me realize that schools like that arnt looking in the northeast as much anymore. there are people all over just as good as the people in the northest. even though i know memphis or any other school in the south will never be as good as the md. and ny. teams. it just makes us(southern, westcoast, ect.) people feel like we have a chance.

The Native Americans lived in Canada/Northern US.
