Anybody heard this band yet?

I love Tom DeLonge's voice, it's fantastic. The guitars are kind of retro which is cool, and the drums on "The Adventrue" keeps my toes tapping the whole way through.

Any thought on them?

I really need to get their CD "We don't need to whisper"

My friend put it best:

Oh my god, stay away from the Angels and Airwaves CD.
You know the new band from that whiny guy from Blink 182.
Oh Jesus, what a piece of *poo*.
Don't even look at the uber-pretentious, pink floyd rip-off album art.
I think it might be a practical joke or something.
If it is, it's not even funny.
Seriously, not kosher whatsoever
This is the music suicide bombers listen to on their iPods
Yeah pretty much.

I expected alot out of it especially since this quote:
In interviews with outlets like mtv.com, Delonge proclaimed (among other things) that the new music was going to be somewhat of a revolution to change the face of rock & roll forever.
The whole album is a joke. Its like a rip off Coheed & Cambria and every Post-Punk band with the arena rock guitar sound (heavy on the reverb). And I know I heard that riff before somewhere else. The electronics... lyrics AGH. I want to punch him.

Yes Change Rock n' Roll in the way no one will ever follow in your footsteps (i can only pray).

edit - Now I know what it sounds like, Arena Rock + Post-Punk with a lot of My Bloody Valentine mixed in there. I think I could rattle off a whole list of his "influences".

Well enjoi atleast DeLonge is taking himself seriously.

I don't care what the review is on this cd, it's not even out yet I don't think, but I can tell I'm going to like it.

Well thats fine and all just giving, and justifying my opinion.

This band will be the next big pop thing that is for sure.

just caught the performance on letterman. definitely sounds like blink-182, which is fine. but a&a don't do as well, juding by the song they performed, by poorly masking it with lots of delay effect (yup, real u2-y). but not one of those vintage echoplex effects, more like a cheap Boss or DOD replica, like the latter company's "grunge" pedal.

It's more about the lyrics though, so many people have classified this type of music as a guy with some whiny voice singing about a girl.

A&A convey the same emotions, but with a more mature style, and definetly more refined lyrics and vocals.

A&A is not a side project of blink 182. A side project would suggest that the band is still together. Since blink broke up sometime in Feb '05...

this always baffles me. What makes someone more qualified for having an opinion about music? It's an opinion. no one is more qualified to have an opinion than anyone else. If a kid who knows NOTHING about music likes it, so be it. And if someone who knows a TON about the music industry hates it, who cares? Maybe I enjoy music just for its sound and not because of anything else. I dunno, just a little ridonculous if you ask me.

I used to feel the same way but I realized its a couple things:
1. Knowledge of music history
2. Knowledge of influential music albums
3. Knowledge of popular tastes/trends
4. Developed writing style.

Basically, while its still an opinion its a better informed opinion than say some 13 year old kid who has only heard whats on the radio and daddy's collection for the entirety of his life.
You're entitled to your own opinion but I trust those with more knowledge than me. Not to mention the more knowledge you have, the better stand point you have.

If some kid came in here and said "OMG ANAGGLES AND AIRWAVES IS THE BEST MOST INNOVATIVE BAND OF THE CENTURY". Its his opinion right, but factually its wrong. They aren't innovative because you can trace their sound back to a combination of U2, post-punk bands and My Bloody Valentine. He still has every right to say that they are the Bees knees though.
