I just read on another board that boy's lacrosse has been approved as a high school league sport in Minnesota.

sure is i was at the meeting. the presentation was great-a director from us lacrosse flew out to show his support at the meeting and made a short but effective speech. howard rogers did a great job as well, and a mom from andover spoke. when the chair announced that it passed everyone went nuts there were like 150 players/coaches there it was sweet

hey im from missouri. here lacrosse is still a club sport. do you know what qualifications, like how many teams in the state must play the sport or whatever, to get it passed as a recognized state sport?

It's up to the individual state to decide such things.

That's far from guaranteed. Just because the state recognizes boys' lacrosse doesn't mean that your school will make it a Varsity sport.

Minnesota has club high school league now that includes about 50 high schools. Each school has from 1 to several teams (varsity, JV, Freshman/Sophomore). The league has been run as close to a high school league as possible in preparation for being sanctioned. Including the youth programs, there are around 8,000 kids playing lacrosse in the state. It is now up to each school to decide if they want to support a team in the Minnesota State High School League. The other option would be for some of the current teams to stay with the club league for a while. The club league may still hang around for a while until all the teams are in the MSHSL. Also, girl's high school lacrosse was sanctioned back in the 2003 season, so there has been pressure to get the boys on equal footing. This vote has been tried the past two years and failed. Third time is a charm!
