'At Large' Players

Looking at the signup instructions at www.champcamp.com as well as the Battle of the Hotbeds Tournament, they both have a section for players that want to post their application not assigned to any team. Does anybody know how this process works, or the odds that an involved team will put you on their roster? Is there anyone on these forums who has attempted to be an 'At Large' player?
