Looking out at the field at the quarter finals at Towson U, you couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the hideous eyesore that met your eyes. A washed out greyish green "field" that either looked like something left over from the apocalypse or a very poor quality screen of a cheap video game. Th is a disgrace. Only a couple years ago there was actually grass there, which is of course what it should be. With the money these schools charge, the least they could do is maintain a beautiful field.

There are other considerations besides the obvious practical. The game of lacrosse should not be played on a hideous field like this. You may have even noticed it on tv, as a friends wife did when she said, "How can they play on that?!" There has obviusly been a lot of attention lately spent on spreading the game, increasing attendance ( although the crowd of 7,000 yesterday was nothing like Maryland used to draw for the quarters) and much self congratulation. But what has definitely been left out is some consideration for quality. Hopkins at least has fake grass that looks pretty good. But for god's sake give us real grass. We are below the Mason-Dixon Line.Watching the game, it was actually hard to see the forest for the trees. The trees were the eyesore field.

I know its a lame excuse but that day the weather was extremely freaky. One moment it looked and felt like there was going to be a hurricane and the next it was perfect. That probally detered quite a few people from coming.
