Today in our game our team was 3 men down. Is this even legal? We had no middies on the field and are coach was going nuts but the ref said it was legal. We actually killed the 3 man down tho with are sick longpole triangle lol. but i was like wtf cuz everytime we got the ball we had 2 dump it to an attackman, These refs were terrible calling everything and making up calls but our man down is untouchable killed 5 minutes strait of man down.

I think it is legal because once in a game we had 2 man down, luckily it didnt last more than about 10 seconds because one penalty was almost up when the other was called.

defently leagle but 3 is the limit so tell your coach if you go 4 man down not to take out the 4th guy cause then the ref will prolly call offsides or something on you.

That happens to one of my meathead (aka nose guards w/lacrosse sticks) high schools every game. It also happened to my other team and when the flag was down, they scored a goal. I had a long pole face off, an attack take a wing. I wasn't sure if I could get the other long pole to take a wing (anyone know?). Basically, I was just trying to kill time so some of the three players in the box had the opportunity to get out.

I read in Laxref's differences between NFHS and NCAA that in the NCAA you can have as many people in the box as possible, while in NFHS it's limited to 3, and after that (first of...God help you) the penalties are "stacked". Could someone describe what exactly "Stacked" means, in terms of how the 4th penalty is assessed? Is it added to the player with the longest time left, the shortest, split between all three, left up to the coach's discrecion, etc?

In both major codes (NFHS, NCAA) you can have up to 3 men off with no issue. In NFHS after the 3 middies (if you will) are sent off a team will continue to loose players starting with the defensive half of the field (i.e. you always need 3 attack men) until a team is 8 or men down then the attack men go off the field. In NCAA once three players are serving penalties the following players are sent off but don’t serve there time until one other player’s time expires. I have heard yes and no to the following question about NCAA: If the forth player has a releasable penalty does his penalty get released by a goal as he was actively serving the penalty? I have heard more yes than no on this but if it is no it would not surprise me.

Yep, ots legal. We had it for about 20 seconds, but luckily, the quarter ended, so... yay!

I think "stacked" means that the fourth guy's penalty minutes don't start winding down until one of the other guys is released.

They do that in box here, where you can only be two men short.

Also, with releasing after a powerplay goal, the refs will erase the first minor penalty being served. From what I've seen with field, I think its the same....the first releasable gets taken off the board when a man-up goal is scored.

Rule 7-2-b:

Any player serving a releasable penalty shall be released when his
penalty time ends or after the scoring of a goal against the penalized
team. Non-releasable penalties (e.g., maligning the official) remain nonreleasable
until full time is served.

The big question is whether you are "serving" a penalty if the time is not counting down on it yet. Since you aren't allowed in the game while waiting to serve your penalties, I'd say you're serving and that your penalty would be released *unless* it's a nonreleasable penalty. Thus, when you're putting people in the box, there's some significance to where you place that guy with the nonreleasable time.

I hope you never have to stack penalties, because it would be a nightmare to explain to the coaches and scorers (I haven't had to do it yet, but in a developmental indoor league I had one team with 4 of their 5 players in the box at once; there was no stacking rule there).
