I have cross trainers that have a court bottom but I was sliding all over the place in the box tonight. What do you guys use for good traction on cement?

Good basketball or 'court' shoes (i.e. for racket ball). The main thing is to have as much sole surface contacting the floor, but not in such a way as to impede traction - like some skater shoes I see out there. :WTF:

Most floors are pretty good with your average basketball shoe. Sometimes you will find the surface becomes slippery due to moisture or poor cleaning. It might be handy to keep some rosin, hairspray or cola around for times when the floor is slippery enough to worry about it...

Pour some coke at the entrances to the bench. The coke trick works.

Hairspray collects dust making it more slippery.

Use Basket-Ball shoes. I use cross trainers, but I also, am more defender.

I just use a simple pair of running shoes and they have worked really well for me. I found that when i had some backetball shoes that i was falling all over the place on them.

But i am thinking about getting some Dada shoes for next season

I use normal running shoes. I have had no problem with them while running. I play goalie so there may be some difference there.

You play goal without steel-toes?

You're braver than I am!

i just play in normal nike basketball shoes
i make sure to keep them clean and not wear them anywhere but on the floor
when we're playing in a particularly slippery arena, our trainer puts down rosin outside of the door to help out traction

Coke does the same thing as the hair spray and collects dust I find just takes a little longer. So far the best I have found is using a bleach board. You staple a towel to a board and then pour bleach on it you then step on the bleach going on of the bench. It works try it

Only try it under the supervision of an adult BLEACH BURNS

Coke will but if you leave it at the end sof the bench you refresh it everytime.... hair spray costs to much to reapply every shift.

The flap is good for the top of the foot, but doesn't cover the toes well enough for my liking! The last time I played goal, I took a ripper off the big toe. Nail turned black and fell off......pretty gross and painful!

I've heard horror stories from one pro goalie about how many toenails he's gone through!

As far as grip - I figure the bleach board is actually a really good idea - it'll let you clean your soles every shift, and soften up the rubber a bit for better grip. Coke and hairspray just make sure you pick up every speck of stray dirt from the floor.

Best thing is just to get the lazy sack-of-crap arena manager to keep the floor clean, and make sure it doesn't sweat!

I'm going to talk to the concrete forming contractor I'm working with now to see if there's an industrial non-slip floor topping they could use for the concrete.......maybe cost is prohibitive (regulation size rink = about 1/2 acre), or the freezing/thawing from the ice.

just wiope the dust off the soles of your kicks after every shift, some arena's it doesn't matter what you do becasue the dust will make the floor slippery what ever you do, I've just been using my nike lebron 3's :worship:

stated before that the hairspray doesnt work, well id dont play box but i do know the coke trick does work when i played basketball
and that is why i get basketball shoes because its more like an outdoor bball court

basketball shoes are the best becaue of the high anckle support, and reduces the chances of rolled anckles

and you dont have to use all that hair spray coke crap in my experience it hasnt worked

try using rozin(resin maybe, not sure on spelling). you can pick it up at the hardware store and you just sprinkle a bit down the bench and it usually helps the problem of slippy floors.

As slinky said, use coke, its nice and sticky. Also, try getting some Dada C Web shoes. If you can find them. I play basketball, and have a pair. They have soo much traction. They should help.

The arena that my team plays at has a reputation for slippery floors, but i haven't had to use coke or hairspray, a good shoe for traction would be the Nike Air Uptempo, they're a good pair of shoes for lacrosse becuz they have excellent ankle support, amazing traction, and they're a steal for $99

i tried experimenting with hair gel on my shoes the other night and it worked amazingly.

i cleaned the bottom of my nike basketball shoes so that there was no gravel or dirt between the treds. I then dried it. Then put a ttiinnyy drop of hair gel on the bottom of the shoe and started to rub it around until it felt dry and tacky. I then carefully put them in my bag and played my game with them 3 hours later. They were perfect. And then didn't even get dust stuck to them.

I allways used basketball shoes high cut or three quater cut, mainlly for the ankle support. The thing is if the floor is sweating or a little dusty,it wont matter what you have on youre feet you will still feel like youre slipping.

I just use some basketball shoes, I don't even need the hairspray, since I have pretty good balance, some floors are just terrible though and I just cherrypick then.

I can believe the Cherry Picking after watching in Regina.
I use BBall shoes for the ankle support, as for slippery floors try rubbing the soles on your calf just before you go out the moisture will clean the dust off and it is alot easier to supply sweat then Coke or Hairspray.

i use normal running shoes too. Steel toe shoes would be good if it was just a normal running shoe with a hard toe but every pair ive tried on have a thick hard sole that is very slippery and stiff
