I play on an all guys in Canada and its a box team. I seem to have a target on my back because i an hit from all different angles. I rarely get calls, even if its from behind (here you get thrown out if you hit from behind). Its not fair and even teams that know me, hit me harder than if i was a guy. The refs hate me too, because a few weeks ago i got punched in the face by a goalie and he didnt get anything. ( you get a suspension for punching, im in bantam.) And so, any ideas? im not a star all though i score once in a while....

I dont see why people would do that. So what? Youre a girl? Big deal? Just show them up, score some goals, lay some checks, and let them know that you can play!

My question. Who hits a girl as hard as they can?

Probably nobody. Here's what I think. Its not that bad. You just think it is because they are so big and your intimidated. Live with it.

I have played with girls before they cry when they get slashed with a nothing slash. Then I go out and get my knees taken out and I get up and get even. They get tapped say the guys are too big and cry on the bench for a bit. Its lacrosse you chose to play; live with it... or quit its simple.

I have no sympathy. If everyone in fact is hitting yuo as hard as they can... its cause they wanna win, your playing a collision sport. Its going to happen

Going to agree with AM17, let them know that you're just as tough as them... Get up after those checks and lay their arse to sleep during a LB. Make sure to humiliate them in every way possible when you do score or pull some nice set of dodges.

You canadians are odd though(not meaning this in a flame type way...)read the codes of Chivalry(or at the very least, treat her at an equal!)... I think i'd be more distracted if I saw a girl playing LAX again me. I'd be attempting to get her number, not the ball...

EDIT: Slinky just brought up a great point during the posting of this. Though it may not be true... If it's not, don't let it get you down, just keep chugging 'I think I can, I think I can.' If it is, try to walk in their shoes a bit more.

From your post I gather your Bantam and that would be about the age where size, speed and strength between boys and girls becomes very uneven. If its to the point where you can't take the hits then maybe you shouldn't be playing with the boys anymore for safety reasons. Forget the PC crap about girls being able to do everything as well as boys. The reality is that at your age you are going to be at a strength disadvantage and will probably get knocked around more than other kids if you aren't fast enough.

Meh,

I play senior ball that means men anywhere from 5'8" to 6'10" - 150 - 280 lbs. There are always going to be bigger and smaller players. What smaller players lack in size they have to make up in heart.

If you want to play this game and play it well you can't play it waiting for calls. Let the refs ref and the players play. I get hit late I get punched in the face I get hit from behind during changes - it is a by product of the game you either learn to absorb abuse or you quit - occationally you can give out some retribution (when situation permit).

Instead of asking what you can do about others change your self and your style of play. We had a player on our team smallest guy on the team but his "thing" was his ability to take a beating and still make it to the goal. Or become a shooting threat.

Whatever you do you will have way more luck changing your style or attitude then changing that of the league and refs. Boy girl it don't matter we are all players.

are you perhaps...a jerk to other people in such a way that would make them want to hit you? just a thought...

but i totally agree with AM17, if the hit you hard, go hit them harder. you have to prove to them you are not one to be messed with

I wouldn't worry about it. There was one year that I would get grabed, pulled down and hit on the ground whenever i beat my man. Just live with it. As far as hitting you harder... don't think I know anyone that would. I always hated when I played against a team with a girl on it because I felf bad about hitting her.
You're going to get punched and you are going to take hits from behind. It's part of the game. If you're on a breakaway, I don't care who you are, I'll cfb you. 2 min to stop a break, no questions asked there.
Just keep practicing as much as possible and go on with it. Keep playing hard and keep improving and your team will handle the cheap shots for you.

I agree with bionic18, but I also think that you should show these punks up. Earn a little respect and you could be feared.

a girl should be treated no diffrent than a guy my little sister plays in the same leage as the boys and she gets hit same as everyone else.
its a rough sport if your a girl well dont expect guys to go easy on you if you want to play with the boys expect to be hit hard.

and my sister is small but she puts guys on the ground and she has a snipper shot and gets alot of goals. so girls can play with the boys

I agree, anytime a girl plays with the boys, you have the possibility of a Dannica Patrick/Michelle Wie stiuation. Sure, they're good with women. But they suck playing against the men. At certain levels, girls are definetley smaller and weaker. Some don't want to bulk up and stay feminine. Well, IMO, deal with it.

well for one your team should stick up for you not because your a girl but just simply becasue you are apart of the team ... thats what its like out here in Richmond ... one of your teammates get a bad check ... the rest of the team goes after the other guy .... but guaranteed it probably just semms worse then you think .... i say stick it out and the next time you get checked ...rock the next guy that comes past you ...good luck

Ummm, isn't Dannica Patrick nearly winning races in the IRL??

So then I'm confused.

Almost and nearly only count in horseshoes and hand gernades. I don't think she's won a race yet, and her best is like 4th.

if guys out there are hitting you harder than they're hitting the other guys, it's because you're good and they think you should suck. think of them hitting you as a meter of you're playing abilities, the harder you get hit, the better you're playing. so keep it up.

p.s. i could never hit a girl too hard, just enough to let her know whats up

nex game, or better yet practice, when someone takes a cheap shot at you ... go after them. Tear there helmet it off, bloody their nose, and even if they get the best of you ... you will earn respect.

If you keep letting them do it then they are goin to keep doin it. You have to earn there respect and playing hard and mixing it up will help. Once you earn the respect of the guys on your team they should have your back in games. Like they would for any other player on the team.

This is coming from hockey experience but I think it will work out the same.

uhmm I get smoked lots and it doesnt really bother me, just talk some trash and draw a penalty, but if you don't want to get hhit as much jsut run, keep your feet moving because that way your alot harder to hit

I have a girl on my team that hits just as hard if not harder than some of the guys. Im not kidding shes taken like 4 kids out of the game this season. They had to be dragged or carried off. She also helps out on the scoreboard too. She has Idk like 20 points this year(12 games). She is really quiet outside of lacrosse but on the floor shes just one of the guys.

im a female goalie for an all male midget team and ive played with the guys for 9 years now. All the guys on my team are so supportive and they treat me really well, some people on the other teams can be morons but i mean you kind of have to expect that. I play guys lax because its more competitive, and with competition comes harder hits, trash talk etc. All in all though, i've never really had a bad experience. but then again im a goalie not a player, and that probably makes a difference

it didnt hurt the fact that he did that, it bugs me.... not to mention kids saying girls shouldt be playin....... right by coaches... not so good......
and to the female goalie.... it is way different being a female goalie then a player.

ive played with a girl for the past 3 years of box and she did get beat up but she always got up, she never sat on the ground and complained. now i dont know your exact situation, but in bantam like some have mentioned, guys really start to grow in height weight and strength, so if u wanna keep playing you have to understand that you will always be at somewhat of a dissadvantage. now if what you say is true about guys hitting you full on and the refs hating you, then theyre all jerks, if they need to pick on you to get self gratification then they have some other problems. all the guys ive ever played with treated her like a lady in some ways without making it seem like she had special treatment. the girl i know doesnt want to be treated differently then the guys, that makes her stand out, she just wants to have fun with what shes doing. now all this was houseleague, if your playing competitive then hats off to you, but you will notice that it doesnt get much easier as the years go on, so maybe you should decide now if you really want to continue playing box. i know in the Ottawa area womens field is really picking up. maybe if there isnt anything like that for you around where you live, then you should start something. im sure you know female friends that you could get into womens field. you never know maybe we'll be reading about you in the next IL about the success of womens field in ___________, Canada.

Hey this may sound harsh but ya really got to suck it up, i played box lax with guys my whole life so i know from experience, but if they drop their gloves, drop yours.. show them what youre made of, anyways you gotta put up with it cus if youre only a bantam wait till you get to midget, it gets interesting but i always had tons of fun playing with guys, beats that no pocket, no hitting chick "lacrosse" or hide your hair, throw it up under your bucket and youll fit right in haha but anyways goodluck with that, just toughen up eh

that was exactly what i was going to say, except for one thing, there's probabaly a girls league, you can play that if you dont wanna get hit stop playing with the big boys

Lax_Bandit

The answer to this is simple....there are no girls or boys on a team. They are all players. All players on a team have to play as hard as they can regardless of gender. Whether you are a girl or a boy, only you know if you have the parts to play on any particular team and if you can't, move to a sport or a team where you CAN play to your ability.

Its may seem like the opther players are targeting you, but theyre not. Box lacrosse is an extremely aggressive sport , so get used to it. As far as taking a punch to the face and nto getting the call? Who cares, where i play here in Nova Scotia almost all of the refs hate my club becuase they think we're just a bunch of goons, and this is midget. We won the provincial championships, and the lobster trap tournament without getting almost any calls for us. So get used to it, dont get the call, so what, dont complain.

P.S- Where do you play

Just because the refs didnt all anything doenst mean they hate you. Some refs let it go cause its gonna happen anyways. One time i was standing along the boards waitin for the ball to pop out and some guy put me in a head lock. I ended up throwin him to the ground and ripping his bucket off and filling him in. We both just got 5 minutes. After that we dropped the gloves and then got kicked out but no suspensions.

In all our games when you go by a guy on another team he'll cross check you hard even if the balls on the other side fo the floor. Just hit him back harder. Its a rough game and shi*t happens, deal with it
