First of all, I know this should be in the recruiting forum but for some reason it wasn't letting me create a thread in there, so can a mod please move this for me? Thanks.
Alright, I'm currently a freshman (sophmore in a few months), and I think that over the next few years I could be able to become college face-off man material. My question is, how can I hope to be recruited as a fogo? I live in a non-hotbed (North Carolina), and the select teams around here don't invite specialized players like fogos. I might be able to attend a recruiting tournament on my own, but do coaches even look at face off men there?
Some advice would be great, thanks guys.

go to a select team and try out as a middie, tell them that you have a nasty faceoff, any good coach will appreciaite that if your very good and should know what to do with you.

Ya LaxMiddie is right. Work hard, at not only face-offs but, being a good middie as well. Coaches will love having a great f-o man but will like having a great f-o man who can play middi more.

My friend Matt Gaines was recruited out of HS as a FOGO guy for Rutgers, but eventually played his sophomore year and became captain this year as a junior. But he was sick, winning like 78% of his face off for his high school career.

You should have tried out for Triad Select if you want to become college material. There may not be a lot of select teams in NC, but there are some... You play for Providence, a respectable team, so just make sure that you get on the varsity squad next year... Also, if you're up for the 2 hour commute twice weekly, there is a select team starting up in Winston-Salem. We are going to hit 3 tourneys, one of which is up in Delaware. PM me if you're really interested...

Now please dont flame me, but what exactly is a FOGO? Like what does it stand for, I know its a faceoff specialist but what does it actually mean?

If I was looking to play FOGO and D-middie in college, should I still be working on my offense a lot too, or should I be mainly focusing on defense and faceoff skills?

Ok I figure I should get in on this since I am getting recruited to be a fogo in college. The best advice I could give to you is don't let face offs control you and define you know. Try to be a well rounded player over all, with face offs at the pinacle of it. I'm my biggest critic when it comes to facing off though. I will watch film of my self and study everything about my technique. Not a day goes by without me practicing, I'm obsessed with it. I was lucky enough to impress the right people and this past fall and this summer I was and am in a great position to get TONS of looks. But practice like you would never believe and just do your thing and try to get on a good team for the off season.

im also interested in playing fogo and d-middie in college. so how high do you think your win percentage needs to be junior season to get recruited?

Youre going to have to get seen to be recruited as a fogo, unless you play in an elite HS league where all dominant players go DI anyway.
