View Full Version : getting the sticky stuff off your shaft
I don't know if this is the right forum, but whatever.
When I take off the tape from my shaft, the sticky stuff from the tape sticks to my shaft. I find this really hard to get off. I tried scraping it, washing it, rubbing it with an abrasive piece of cloth, and it takes forever and never comes out truly clean. Does anyone have a good way to easily get rid of the "stick stuff"?

i usually dont leave tape on for so long that its impossible to get off...
try heating it up with a hair driver and then using a razor and stripping it off

I hear great things about goo-gone, but I have yet to use it. Currently I use fingernail polish remover. I get funny looks from people who see it in my bathroom, but it works wonders not only on lacrosse shafts but in plenty of other similar situations.

i tried using nail polish remover. it didnt work great. I did not feel like buying something. I used WD-40 and it does miracles. I know it doesnt sound like it works, but trust me it just falls off. Spray it on, take a cloth and one rub takes it off

I've heard just taping over with scotch tape pressing down pretty hard, then pulling it off works, but I haven't tried it.

This happened to me. I played in the rain and the tape got messed up so I took it off to re tape it a different way.
Just wet it a little and use a scraper you use you for paint. Should work fine.

It seems clear that the two popular choices are Goo-Gone and WD-40. If you don't have those at hand, try Coleman fuel. Keep it away from open flames.

paint thinner and/or WD40 both work on everything sticky...as long as neither things go near your mouth...

the nice thing about goo-gone is that its non toxic and (mostly) non-flammable
i used a lot of the stuff mentioned here, but they have toxic vapor and can be highly flammable (wd-40 is essentially kerosene)
i'd reccomend the goo-gone over all the others.

Diethyl ether.
Bonus, after you're finished cleaning off your stick, you can use the ether to get yourself into an irresponsible state of mind. :nut:
Seriously, pretty well any solvent works to a certain extent, gasoline, turpentine, kerosene, WD-40, acetone......... Goo gone or equivalent is safest.
To really shine up a dirty, gooey shaft, my persona fave is Easy-off oven cleaner or equivalent.
