Hey guys,
Now i really think this is going to be hard to get a non-biased view, but try to pretend you dont like lacrosse or hockey more. I take faceoffs for lacrosse, and a buddy of mine does faceoffs for our hockey team. Out of no where the one day, he says that hockey faceoffs are so much harder, and i just cant see where he's coming from. I mean, hockey faceoffs seem so much simpler than lacrosse, whereas lacrosse theres a physical and mental part to it, it seems hockey is just getting to the puck faster than the other guy.
Anyway, which is harder? why....

I'd say lacrosse. In hockey it's more like who can hit the puck out the fastest. In lacrosse it's an all out war for who can clamp and get it out, and there are people shoving and trying to get leverage. Hockey is simply who can slap the puck out first.

coming from someone who does both, im gonna have to go with hockey. in lacrosse, ur reflexes don't have to be as sharp as for hockey. even if the other player beats u to the clamp, u can still recover by a check, or clamping on top of their clamp so they can't drag the ball out. hockey, you have to be lightning fast.

Different sports, different stratgies, different skills.
You can't even compare the two, except for the following points:
-A good F/O man is a valuable asset to a team.
-a good F/O man in either sport is one that wins more than 50% of his draws game in and game out.
-One of the best ways to win consistently is to cheat carefully.

Uh, like, have you guys ever even done draws in hockey? There's a helluva lot more to it than you folks seem to think.
have to go with exactly with what he said
usually a hockey faceoff can take a second
where in lacrosse in can take as long as 20 seconds in all out war

i totally accidentally voted for lacrosse, hahaha, even though i think hockey is harder.

I voted for about the same
there is a lot more to hockey faceoffs than some people think
there actually are different moves like in lacrosse: jams and the like
not mention a normal grip or "motorcycle grip" just like lacrosse
plus I definetely base my move off which way i think my opponent is trying to draw
although I think what makes hockey seem simpler is just that if you win it t your own wing theres still a high chance the opposig wing right next to him could take it immediately

Unique challenges in both sports. F/Os in hockey may not take as long, but there's plenty of skill/trickery/strategy involved.
One thing lacrosse draw-men never have to deal with are shorthanded faceoffs in your defensive zone. These D-zone draws are even more stressful when you're the team that has to put their stick to the F/O dot first!
The pressure is really on for these. If your opponent wins back, you have to blast through the opposing centre and/or winger and get your arse out to one of the points in a hurry to cover. If you win, you have to get your arse to the boards and help clear.

I take both hockey and lacrosse faceoffs. I say lacrosse faceoffs are harder. There are more moves in lacrosse that you have to do. If you don't perfect these moves then you will easily be beat. You also need more quickness in lacrosse to be a good faceoff guy.

Although both hockey and lacrosse faceoffs require quickness, there is one distinct difference...
lacrosse faceoffs are an all out war...hockey the puck gets slapped around a quick second and they part...
that doesn't happen in lacrosse...like above posts said, it can take some time to get the ball free from the heads, not to mention how often in hockey does the guy taking the faceoff, win it...sprint to the goal and score??? rarely does...
that's why lax is just that much better :guns:

I've never played hockey and I haven't watched it too much in my life so I'm not an expert on hockey face-offs, but I think there's clearly a huge difference between FOs in both sports, but I'd take the lacrosse face-off any day.
I like how it was described above, an "all out war". If you and the other guy are parallel in speed, then you get locked up and you have to fight with every bit of strength in your body, the winner is the guy that wants it more. Its a battle in the middle of the field.

i played hockey and now im playing lacrosse and i used to take alot of faceoffs in hockey and ive tried to take a few in lacrosse but there is so much more you have to perfect to do it good in lacrosse in hockey you just have hit the puck or chech him and the puck is yours i think lacrosse is much harder

So much for the unbiased, lax f-o are killing hockey

Done both, I think lacrosse is a heck of a lot harder...then again its way more rewarding winning the "war at midfield", then winning on a F/O in hockey.

i would have to say lacrosse...from doing hockey faceoffs i'd say it's almost entirely quick reaction time...maybe that means it's harder. well i'll say then that lax is more 'complicated', because u cannot simply b quick (though that is necessary)-u have to have many different face-off techniques down.
btw, even those who take both cannot necessarily be the final answer-a person with good moves but a slower reaction time may find hockey harder, but a guy who has a great reaction time but doesn't know all the different lax moves may find lax more difficult.

You make a good point. Hockey isn't just that, but I really think that lacrosse is slightly harder, because you are really duking it out. Hockey isn't quite as physically demanding, you just need major quick reflexes. But you make a very good point.

imo its also about getting the ball or puck and controlling to clearly win a faceoff yeah u can win the clap or whatever but u didnt really win the face off with out possesion and in lacrosse its also about ur wing mans.. the face off guy isnt always gonna win it by himself.. that being said i dont no much about hockey other then what ive seen on tv which isnt much so
