I have just recently moved here from the West Coast (Washington state) and now live in Northern VA and am wanting to try out for my school team. The problem is that I will be a senior next year and have never played in my life. I know i want to play attack, but I still have a few questions:

1. Are you allowed to wear soccer cleats while playing, or do they have to be LAX specific cleats?

2. Any tips from my tryout week, anything to really show that im worth being on the Varsity team?

Yea you can wear any type of cleat you feel like. I play soccer also, so I wear soccer cleats. A tip is to not be afraid. Because it is your first year playing dont get down on yourself becuse you missed a pass or flopped a ground ball. Because you area beginner, you probably wont make varsity. Take the oppurtunity to et better and most importantly have fun.

always hustle no matter what. The reason one of my friends made the high school team is because he hustled and never realy stopped running

As an announcer said in the NCAA tourney, "Its a lot easier to make a lacrosse player out of an athlete than an athlete out of a lacrosse player," or something of that sort... What I'm saying is, if you are shy to stick skills, get in really good shape and be SUPER quick. The stick skills will come.

Yeah, college recruiters said they were looking for speed, they can teach you to play lacrosse. So basically the most valuable players are fast, quick, and strong.

Yeah Im only 17, Im going to Mount vernon High school. Right down the road from Mount vernon estate.

Thanks for the help everyone! Luckly my soccer coach makes us run alot of suicides so I am fairly fast. The problem is though here at my school when you are a senior if you dont make varsity you dont play. They dont play seniors with lower classmen for some reason and thats will all sports here.

Mt. Vernon was like 2-12 this past season. So if you wall-ball a lot over the summer and stay in shape, you could be a good defensive mid.

Hahaha yeah they did suck, but it was a rebuilding year since they graduated most of their seniors. Your from woodbridge? What school do you go to?

Don't burn my homies! Ya we sucked but thats after a 6-year, like 41-0 streak in the District.

And we had the defenseman of the year. But yes we lost A LOT of very good players from offense and D.

schmoflo...i think i know who you are...you play paintball right?

yeah dont worry about it being your first time, you will get good if you are athletic, stick skills will come if you play wallball on the huge wall at the gym entrance for an hour a day. its alot harder to become athletic than to learn to catch and throw well.

if you want to impress coach nolls just play with us during the summer, if you can that is. if you cant play attack you would be a good middie.

oh yeah, if you are scrappy and try your hardest to get every groundball and get the ball away from the other team, that counts for ALOT. noone gets good without effort.

in the winter we will have our agility and weight training, go to all of those.

good luck
