What do people do in your area regarding the timer at the end of periods. I was always told that we don't have them come onto the field anymore since it's a liability issue, but I still see some people do it. I don't mind if they move down the sideline so it's easier to hear them, but I don't want them on the field where they could get clocked or otherwise get in the way.

Haven't had any situations with no visible game clock. If we do then the officials keep the time on their own watch, and in these cases we are using a running clock.

But yes if I had to I wouldn't want them to come on the field because you're right it is a liability issue. basically I'd tell them to count down from the sideline.

Down here it varies on the ref. Usually they don't need to come on the field if the games already decided or the official can hear the timekeeper clearly.

I can usually hear the bench yelling more than the timekeeper. I listen for the horn to determine the exact moment play stops.
