Next year is gonna be the 1st year my school will have both a varsity and a jv team, so there will be alot of new kids joining. Other than the defensemen, most of them wont know what position they'll be playing. Some of them are asking me what they should get for sticks, so I was wondering what would be a good, inexpensive shaft/head combo for someone who may be playing either attack or defense.

just go ahead and get an icon or AV8. They're only $30, and very high quality, especially for what you pay for them. The Icon lends itself to defense, mainly because it's stiff, but you can use either of them for any position. You might want to restring them (since they come strung, you can order them hard mesh and reuse the mesh and shooters) and pinch them for attack or maybe middie if you know how.

I've strung sticks, but I've only done them for myself and I play defense. So what exactly would I do differently for a stick for an attackman?

The Brine Radius is also a fine cheap beginner's stick. I only add this because I think it's wider than the Icon, and I personally don't like the STX cant.
If you've got mostly first year players, you won't need a different pocket for attack. As long as it can throw okay and is deep enough to cradle it shouldn't matter. Though I wouldn't recommend pinching sticks yet.

I have an octane that I'm willing to trade or sell. Those are perfect for defense.

an edge isn't that expensive either. check out the intrepid, too.

You can get a hi-wall from e-lacrosse for $15, and it comes with a shaft.
Not sure if it's strung or unstrung.

Go with Icons and AV8's for beginniners. D or Middie Or attack, doesnt matter.

An intrepid may be ok for attack/middie, but it will snap like a twig for D, IMO! :omg

my first stick was a blaze - got it at a ****s sporting goods. it was only 30 bucks, and it wasnt a bad stick for a beginner - it was great for learning the basics, although the shaft it came with bent practically the first time i played. anyhoo yeah the blaze was cool - just a suggestion

well i have an av8 now and i've reviewed the icon and i have to say that both sticks are worth the little money you spend on them. They perform just as well as other sticks and are cheap. I would recommend a new f15 shaft for either d or short sticks because they are durable and are relatively light. Either than that, i think that hard work is the only thing you'll really need. Gear is great, but better players win games.

o yeah and if you need a stringer ii'm open for business
