How many of you goalies play slew footed (toes pointing towards right and left sidelines) and how many play pigeon toed (toes pointing in). Does anyone know advantages and disadvantages of the two because i was told different things by many people and i cant choose.

I play slewed. I feel I can keep my balance better.

i dunno, sometimes i walk slew footed but usually my feet are just straight out when i play.
I tend to agree that pigeon toed is advantageous and allows you to move faster laterally, but I see many top D1 and pro goalies who play slew/crow footed. I think being able to play pigeon toed partly has to do with how your legs move naturally. For example, zizuhyte says he's naturally slew footed, so for him to play with his feet straight/parallel is relatively pigeon toed for him.
It usually takes most players a long time to get comfortable playing pigeon toed. Maybe a whole season, maybe over a year. If you look at other athletes: basketball guards defending 1-on-1, tennis players preparing to receive a serve, football cornerbacks defending receivers... they all use a pigeon toed stance too.

Basically it depends on what you like, usually i have noticed pidgeon toes work for bigger guys, it really all depends

you should have your feet even under your shoulders and slew footed about an inch outwards

the butler goalie coach came to our school (recruiting our V goalie) and was talking to our freshman goalie and was telling him the proper form and stuf

Can someone explain why being pigeon toed allows better movement?
