i was reading in the Field Forum about how much money the MLL players were making, and then i started to wonder how much the NLL players are getting. I would imagine its more than the MLL since the NLL has been in business longer and its more established, but i have no idea. Does anybody know?
EDIT: Just to add a twist to the thread ; What do you guys think in the next 5 years or so will they be making. A dramatic increase or the same?

The weakest around 15 I think.

Hmm... Odd, I heard it was 5,000 a game... I guess that is rookie wages and tops make more... If you win you get more per game, or something like that...
No set salary.

Let's just say it is not anywhere near enough considering the talent levels. I have heard tops is like 40 k USD and I would believe it, as we know almost every NLL player has a day job so whatever they are getting paid is not enough to support them - unlike almost everyother sport, minus curling if you can consider that a sport.

........I have heard tops is like 40 k USD .........
The league max is "OFFICIALLY" ( :grin: ) something like $22K US.
That doesn't count money paid for non-lacrosse stuff like appearances, for a (possibly non-existent) front office job, for an apartment in the team's home city..........etc. I would not be surprised if some of these add-ons brought the pay for some of the superstars well above $40K.

Obviously it all depends on the player. In Anaheim, there were 4 to a house, and they had to work weekdays at lax schools and such for the team to make 500$ a week.

Do some research...
According to the OLD CBA (collective Bargaining Agreement) I believe this was what the league proposed in 04 and the PLPA (Professional Lacrosse Players Association) turned it down:
Bullet Points
• 1st year players- are being offered $200 per game, that's $200 per game Canadian dollars for players that reside in Canada whether they play for a Canadian or American based team. They are pointing to a theory called "Purchase Power Parity" which ties the exchange rates in equilibrium when their purchasing power is the same in the two countries. An unproven concept that has never been implemented in any sport.
2nd year - $250*
3rd year - $300*
4th year - $500*
5th year- $550*
• The dollars would be in Canadian currency if you reside in Canada regardless of what team you play for.
***Compensation for Practice, bonuses, promotional, travel and work loss would be included in Salary
• A new term introduced called a "core player" which describes a player with more than three or years of service, which MAY enable a player with more than three years of service to be paid between $10,000* and $18,000*. Each team can choose UP TO ten players to be "Core".
Then at there was an agreement of:
Player salaries limits increasing at a minimum of a 6% average over the term of the agreement;
- Increased revenue for the players as team revenues increases;
- Increased per diems and improved benefits;
- Increased revenue-sharing with players of league TV, sponsorship and merchandise revenues;
- Players to receive 7% of any expansion revenues
- Establishment of an escrow fund to guarantee player salaries if any club defaults on payments;
- Guaranteed revenue to the players’ association for group licensing rights;
- Guaranteed percentage of clubs' revenue to be paid to players;
The last major sticking point in the negotiations -- revenue sharing -- did not turn out in the union's favor. PLPA wanted the three profit-making franchises (Colorado, Philadelphia, and Toronto) to help the other clubs.
What PLPA got instead was revenue sharing between itself and the league, with players receiving a cut of sponsorship deals and television revenue.
The players also get a 13.6 percent pay increase over the length of the contract, with four-percent raises in the average salary in each of the first two years and a five-percent hike in the third.
Based on this info...if a player was a "Core" player and making 18k, theoretically +6% = 19.08k +6%= $20.2k as the TOP base salary...add in revenue sharing, and compensation for travel expenses and it could increase to maybe $30k (and thats optimistic) as well as the few players listed as "core".
If you look at a rookie getting $250 per game +6% +6% = $281/game * 16 games? = $4,495

^He wins. IN MY OPINION, I believe that some players get paid too much. I mean, yeah they have a second job and all, but box teams have 1 practice a week and 1-2 games a week.

Is it true that these guys have to take travel and hotel expenses out of the 4,495? If they do, they are probubly paying to play for the NLL. I don't agree with The Playmaker, that box lacrosse players get payed too much. How does a guy just getting out of college, starting a new job, swing it? They must get some help from their families or somthing.

No way, how can someone like Jim Veltman, or John Tavares get paid only that. I bet it was somewhere in the $30,000 range for those types of franchise players.
And no i dont think that players travel expenses get taken out of thier salary, but im not sure about that.

well considering how little floor time he gets as he spent most of his time sitting in the box, one could think of him as being overpaid. :)

Steggmakk, What about travel $$$
Don't quote me on this one but I think they get paid seperate for travel now (not taken out of their pay)...
Especially with more expansion, it is probably a given...granted they might get $X amount for a plane ticket and hotel...but if they want a different flight or a better hotel they pay the difference
but that would be like any job...if i had to go to japan i would get coach class and would have to use my own miles or pay my own upgrade (not worth the money)

I grew up and am friends with several NLL players and the pay does vary. There is a rookie cap at a little over $7000, but top guys get between 20 and 25 000. Mid to high end vets like Pat McCready get around $1000 per. On top of their pay, they get most of the travel paid for, usually all. They also get a per diem, and it's a pretty decent one, it was a big point in the collective bargaining. Some teams screw some players though, like making guys from the island or lower mainland find their own way to Seattle for a flight, instead of just flying from Vic or Van. I heard this was due to team deals with certain airlines that don't fly up here, but I don't know for fact the reason. But when it is all said and done, a guy like John Grant, Lewis Ratcliff and so on, get NLL, CLA, and even MLL money. Combine that with any camps they do, they are doing fine. ANd if they have a full-time job, they are more than fine. Someone above said lacrosse players are getting paid way too low.....really? Most adults work full-time and play sports like old-timer hockey, or softball. Imagine if you got an extra $1000 a week during the winter and another 2 0r 300 during the summer, to play a sport. I don't know the exact average pay in Canada or the US, but lets say $50000. Add to that lacrosse money and you could be over $100000. Maybe they are getting paid what they are supposed to be getting paid, and all the other sports are getting paid insanely too much. If their pay goes up, so do tickets. No $25 CAN for lower bowl on the centre line in Buffalo, it will be $65 for the nosebleeds and $10 for autographs.
