Hey Guys,
I'm looking to get an upgrade on shoulder/chest protection for my son who's playing attack for his local HS. He plays with a big heart, that being said sacrifices his body with no regards to any pain.

As a father, I always cringe when he gets up slowly after a big blindside hit or a hard cross check. So to give myself the peace of mind that I needed. I need some input on the vets of this forum on what's the best protection out there.
I also want to get something that wouldn't impair his playing style or his mobility for that matter. I know that I probably would have to pay top dollar for this item. But then again. God Help me If his mother ever sees him all bandage up , laid up in the sideline injured. :crying:

The best shoulder pads you can buy are the Warrior Player's club shoulder pad 4.5
it'll run you about 150 bucks. here is a link to one:

Medium:

In fact, anything that is warrior player's club would be the best to buy. But it is extremely expensive, the elbow pads are 100 bucks, here is a link to them:

btw, no suggestion/preference threads in this forum

id say warrior has the best overall shoulder pads, i personally have the old MLL 4.0 shoulder pads, but the new ones with the blue design are pretty much the same thing, any of warriors higher end shoulder pads would be good, id say the Hitman(MPG5.0)
or any of the Players Club or MLL ones are good, the brine supercrosse and supercrosse pro SP look good too, it all depends on how much you want to spend

stop sugesting overpriced warrior stuff. the best sp's ever (and they're cheap too) are the Gait Intrepids. http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_1097_front.phtml

the next 'one'

honestly, i must say the warrior hitman 5.0 are amazing. they cover everything that needs to be covered, for around 60-70 bucks. i have had mine for over 3 years and dont plan on new ones all through high school. plus, like you mentioned about the sternum piece, they have an extra sternum pad that runs up and down the middle of the pad. these are the upgraded version of the ones Laxboy suggested.

If you want to hear a bunch of reviews on the pads suggested, or want to do some more research on any equipment, I would suggest going to laxshopper.com (http://www.laxshopper.com) . They have a list of all the current equipment, the range of price, ratings, and reviews. I always check out this site before I buy any equipment.

First off, This is not a preference thread. He asked for flexible pads that have the best protection. Best protection is not "preference" its a fact, it just depends on what shoulder pads you have tried. And my anwser is

Shoulder pads- http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_2649_front.phtml
These are very protective, the best ive worn for a combination of protection and durability.

Arm Guards- http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_4979_front.phtml
Simply the best, and i dont think anyone will disagree. They are protective and flexible.

I can't really answer your question directly, I have only tried a few kinds of shoulder pads. But if you are looking to get the best protection, I would look at box equipment. I know that for rip pads, nothing protects better, so if they make box shoulder pads (I'm not sure if they do) then those should work great. And if you are worried about crosschecks, try to find some of those Gait bicep pads. They are basically hard plates that attach to the shoulder pads that you put on your upper arm. Combined with good arm guards that protect high on the arm, (see post above, best I have ever used) crosschecks shouldn't be as much of a problem.

Does anyone use the supercrosse pros? What are your experiences with them? They look like something his son might like.

for arm guards, the best are the Warrior MPG Elbow Guard 5.0

i have heard very few bad reviews about them

if you are worried, i'd spring for the warrior 6.0s.
thats what i wear these days because i have really trashed shoulders. they have great protection, and i havent had any more lax induced shoulder problems since switching.

most people who have been here a while know i'm not a warrior fan, so you can bet ive looked at most every pair of shoulder pads known to man before giving a bunch of my hard earned $$$ to dave morrow and co. these are simply the best shoulder pads out there. (i havent seen the gait ones that were recommended yet.)

dont skimp on shoulder pads. my shoulders are trashed and i have a lot of pain because back when i played, we didnt have to wear shoulder pads, and i didnt. i delivered a LOT of hits right on my shoulders.

dont skimp, when you are 40 you will thank me.

Im 42 and holding up fine..

Thanks for all the input. I brought him to his first chiropractor appoinment the other day and Chiro said that he was a mess in terms of Spinal alignment and all that mambo jumbo chiro talk. Need to bring him back a couple times to get everything in his body in order..So that will cost me about another $130 in chiropractor bills. So I would definitely be going for the 5.0 or the 6.0 pads and new arm guards.
