whip holds the ball in the stick longer. some people think it increases shot speed because it has more time to load up the energy from the stick. others disagree because they say the ball stays in the stick longer and that decreases the velocity. i personally think it adds speed. plus you can search for whip. there are a bunch of threads that disagree and agree back and forth between each other on what whip does and doesnt do.

whip doesnt make the ball go faster neither does a stick without lip. shooting speed comes from the persons technique not the stick

LOL I feel ya man!

anyway I'd say that whip gives you better ball control but decreases shot accuracy, expecitally if your new to the game. If your not use to whip and you take a shot, the ball will go straight down or completely wide depending on how you shoot it.

whip is all personal preference, even if you dont know what your preference is. i had this kid on my team that when he started playing baught a stick with a ton of whip from play it again sports. eversince then he only used sticks with a ton of whip in it. the kids pretty good too

Im aware that it is a personal prefrence thats wht i said "I'd say" at the beginnig meaning thats what i think pretty much. And mabey your friend thought that thats how all sticks are supposed to be and just addapted to its throwing. I find that if i have alot of whip on my stick and I dont follow through with my shot completely i can just pick coners all day.

I have a really long windup for my shots, so I benifit from whip, even though I have to hold my hands really high when I pass it so I can get velocity on the pass and not put the ball in the ground. I try to string my sticks to that perfect midpoint between good shot and good passes, but it's hard.

basically players that like to have huge long crank shots that increase ball speed tend to have more whip on their sticks due to the fact that it allows them to keep the ball in their pocket as they wind up. on the other hand this causes the stick to be tougher to pass with since its more difficult to get a decent speed on your pass. the most common pocket with large amounts of whip are high pockets, people who arent as worried about large crank shots tend to use mid and low pockets. while both these pockets can still shoot very well, can be made to have great hold, and pass very well, they can be somewhat difficult to get that large crank in that some players like to have. truly this game is all about preference. i would advise you to find a stick that you thrwo and shoot well with and then try to mimick how it is strung on you head, this is the easiest way to findout what type of stick works for you. while most players can adapt to any type of stick, you will be a better player if you adapt your stick to you.
