I bet you can. Just download this on an external Hard drive and install it on that. XP will remain on the computer and the new software will be on the external hard drive. Now you have two operating systems.

I personally would use linux over BSD, I think that it is more current as far as drivers and things like that. You can use alot of windows programs through a WINE, and there are many free (as in beer and open source) that replicate windows applicaition for unix based systems. I think if you want to look in to something like this, Red Hat or Suse would be a good place to start because they quite polished and easy to use.

i'm skeptical because you have to download it. you can downlaod something without a program already (windows) so when you download it i wouldn't be surprised if it messed windows up or something

yeah, linux is said to be better, but windows is the standard, so most ppl use it instead.

So since Unix is open-source, this is just like their own version of it, such as Linux is a version of it?

I don't think that Linux is necessarily better, but it is different. It does somethings better than Windows, and somethings not as well.

So since Unix is open-source, this is just like their own version of it, such as Linux is a version of it?

Unix is not open source, there are many different operating systems that behave in the same way and they fall under the general "Unix" title, some are open source like Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD others are not like Solaris and HP-UX. This seems one seems to be based on FreeBSD.
I don't know anything about this specific distro, but I would suggest trying Red Hat or Suse. There are also "live-discs" that allow you to burn a cd then boot from it to try linux (or a BSD) with out doing anything to your computer. I think Suse has one and I know that Ubuntu linux has one available at www.ubuntu.com

it is a whole new operating system, it is probably a cd image that you need to burn then boot from. but do yourself a favor and don't mess up your system, just go to suse or ubuntu and download the live disc

SUSE Linux 10.1 Live version

SUSE makes the live version of SUSE Linux available for download as an ISO image. This version runs entirely from the bootable DVD and is not installed on the hard disk.

If you want to get to know SUSE Linux or test if your hardware is fully supported, the live version is the right choice for you.

Cool, you know bootcamp will work until, I think 2007. Then it comes with the new computers and software.

Red Hat is really easy to work with my old PC has it as its OS I like messing around with it.
I also hear "Lindows" the linux version that looks and somewhat acts like window$ is really good for people who want to use linux but are accostumed to window$
