I like many am looking to send videos to college coaches in hopes of being recruited.
I have a few questions......
1) Send whole games or edited parts?
2) Show the play develope and and my save? (for goalies)
3) How long should the tape be? (The coaches don't have 3 hours to devote to every kid interested in their program)
4) How many games should I send?
5) Anything else that I should include?
If you have any advice on sending tapes to college coaches for me or any other players please reply and help me out.
Thanks-
Jared

Who are you sending too? This would be difficult to do if you were sending to a TON of schools, but maybe try to add a little of that school's flare to each tape you send. It would help express interest in the school, and though I know nothing really about the recruiting process, I do know that coaches want you to want to play for them... Anyways, just a suggestion under the "anything else" category.
You could introduce yourself before your clips start rolling with a MD shirt on, if you were sending to MD. Get me?

I can tell you, that I would not want to sit through a whole game..
I think it would be beneficial to show plays develope, your communication on the field, clearing ability, ball handling, etc..

unfortunatetly, coaches can read right through that stuff... I think the best idea is to keep it simple.. put yourself in the position of the coach.. think about how many videos and profiles he has to sift through.. it's just like the job interview process.. employers have to sift through hundreds of resumes, and they don't want your whole life story.. keep it simple ..

coaches want to see whole games. they dont watch the whole thing, just parts. the reason they want whole games is that with a highlight tape they arent seeing your whole game. they want to see you move off ball, if you hustle, your attitude, how you intereact with your teammates. they get that with a full game tape
so: get someone with a vid camera, get them up high (on the pressbox? top of the bleachers?) and have them follow you with the camera for the ENTIRE game, even when you are on the sidelines. whereever you are, the camera should be following you.
be sure to label the tape with YOUR uniform number. a top 5 D1 coach once told me a story about recruiting the wrong kid off a tape. he was supposed to be watching one kid but instead ended up watching another one because the tape was not labeled with the number of the kid who sent the tape.

every coach likes somethting different. most of the time they like to see you make a mistake and then recover from it. don't make your video constant goal after goal afetr goal. anyone can score a goal. also, make sure you put right and left handed plays, ground balls, defense, offense, everythingbc the more versatile you are, the more useful they will think you are. make sur eyou put on there whatnumber you are and some background info if you want. don't make it too long and music doesnt matter bc they dont turn the volume on
