I have strung up a relaxed side wall goalie stick and while it had a very deep great pocket, once the mesh broke in it began to have a ton of whip from the ledge, so I was wondering what is a great method to string up a stick that has little whip and a deep pocket, thanks.

The deeper the pocket the harder it is to throw, i may be wrong. That is why noone uses a buterfly net as a pocket

I realize that but I was looking for input by people on what works best for them. Something besides recessed sidewalls, because it seems that if I dan't have those the pocket is really shallow and doesn't control rebounds at all

Try six diamond mesh.....it has much better hold then regular 12 diamond etc., IMO!!:agree :bye

uhh.. you mean 10 diamond mesh.. if they made goalie six diamond then the ball would go right through....

i use a rather odd set-up compared to other goalies i know..

relaxed sidewall with 4 straight shooters and 2 V shooters for hold on 10 d mesh.

i have a deepish pocket but it throws good for me.

10 diamond mesh, make a normal pocket (no shooters) and then pound it deeper in the center. Put a U shooter (small width) exactly where you would cradle the ball, and make the U shooter all the way down to the throat. Kinda hard to explain online, easier if you see it, too bad I dont have any pics. W/e, I can throw from my crease and score on the other teams goal, put it that way, lol. :laugh

LaXDaVe: I think I know what your saying. If your stick is anything like my brothers stick basically it's something like this:

It's called the No-ReboundII pocket. Yeah, It works well in my experiance. Very nice throws, always accurate.

Yeah that, only with 10 diamond (the big holes =P). I love it. Its easy to string too, so its all good. :agree

i might have to try that. Looks like it would work pretty well. now i jus need a stick to try it on, game tomorrow so i cant have an unstrung/partially strung head :(

oh.. one more thing, several goalies i know as well as myself do this to cut down on rebounds.

before you make a save, pull your bottom strings tight so you pocket is shallower, that way your pocket has natural give as the ball enters the pocket and pulls the bottom strings back into normal position. it just has that little extra give that may mean the difference in a saved rebound or not sometimes. believe me it actually works.

Yes, that's a good tip; another good idea is to push your mesh in backwards. Just like the pulling strings method, the stick has more "give" I know alot of goalies that do this.

as far as rebounds, every stick that i have experience with always has that one sweet spot where no matter how hard the ball is thrown it falls right out. and it also seems that any kind of the goalie "monster" mesh has a huge sweet spot. the regular mesh within huge sidewalls seems to work really well and it is what i have in my stick right now and it is extremely accurate and handles superbly. the only problem that i have run into with it is the lack of hold in the bottom...

but gari is just stupid...

Fierce:

I've got a similarly strung goal stick to yours that really hasn't seen much work as I rarely play goal.

I figured that when the mesh started to sag a bit, I could either tighten the sidewalls, or cut out a couple rows of the mesh holes. to tighten it to where it needs to be.
