Last night, I had a dream about high school officiating.

A1 shoots, and the ball is rolling toward the endline. A2 is closer as it's rolling, but just before the ball reaches the endline B2 sprints past A2 and is closest to the ball when it goes out. A2 complains loudly and gets a conduct foul, then keeps talking and gets a USC. Coach A steps onto the field to complain and gets a conduct foul, then complains and gets a USC.

Play restarts briefly and then we're at halftime. Coach A approaches me to complain and gets a USC, then keeps complaining and gets ejected.

Later, still dreaming, I realized I screwed up. What did I do wrong?

(This is pretty easy, so don't answer right away if it's completely obvious to you!)

Your mistake was thinking too much about lacrosse and it is causing you to have bad dreams. :agree:

Field <> conduct foul

Really?

Conduct Foul

ART. 1 . . .A coach shall not enter the field of play without the permission of an official, except to attend to an injured player, to warm up a goalkeeper, or during half time.

Anytime a coach steps on the field besides those three exceptions is technically a CF. Of course, it's probably best not to call it unless you have a better reason than that, but if he's stepping on the field to argue with you I'd call the CF at a minimum.

I thought that conduct fouls could not be called for on field activity - it was actually USC but I will double check

Nope, it's that you can't call a CF for player-to-player activity. For example, a player says something to another player: technically, it's either a USC or nothing, although some people still call it a CF. But you can call a CF on a player or coach when they argue a call but it's not bad enough to make it a USC.

Shouldnt coach A have been ejected after his 2nd USC? It sounds like he got a second, then kept complaining, THEN he got ejected.

or was there something wrong with who you awarded the ball to?

Shouldn't the coach be allowed to complain during halftime?

You are correct. But I was asleep, and I even realized my mistake while I was still asleep, so I don't feel too bad. But I need to get out more.

It depends. They can talk to me respectfully and ask questions. But to continue complaining about a judgment call long after the fact, no, I don't have to listen to that. It's over.

I find myself giving coaches less leeway in dreams than in real life. In my dreams I eject them, then punch them out, then grab a player's stick and poke check them off the field. Probably I need some therapy... :loser:

I had a dream that not a single player complained about any call I made and addressed me as "Sir" at all times, both coaches yelled "Great Call Ref!" with every flag I threw, I beat all fast breaks to the goal as goal judge, there was only 1 slash call, I saw and called every offsides and crease violation even at the opposite end of the field, and fans for both teams made a point to tell me how great of a job I did after the game. Not only that, I uncannily answered every one of LR's reverse quizzes correctly with superhuman speed, and even made a few up on my own that stumped LR and made him submit a few rule rewrites that even he did not think about.

I then woke up and the world was back to normal!

This one made me laugh out loud, then coworkers looked at me funny because I wasnt wearing my usual scowl.

I dream that I show up to the games naked, and then I ref them anyway. The shorts with the 4 inch inseam dont make much difference anyway.
