if the stick goes into the goal with the ball in it, then no its no goal. if you try and throw your stick, its a penalty. but you can kick the ball into the goal.

Correct on both points.

i was watching one of those powell brother things where they screw around with the goalie. mikey faked a pass and the goalie fell for it, and they just played 'catch' for about 45 seconds until the goalie got way out of position and mikey throws his stick from the top of the box into the goal with the ball in it. it was funny to see the goalie's reaction....

Must be a loose ball

What must?

If a ball is in a stick, and that stick isn't in your hads, that ball is not in possession.........and therefore is loose.

The rules do state that only a loose ball breaking the plane of the goal is a goal (although that rule is slightly incorrect; why?). But there are specific rulings in addition to that that say the ball can't be in the stick when it goes into the goal.

In other words, the ball being loose when it breaks the plane is a necessary condition (except for the slightly incorrect part previously mentioned), but not a sufficient condition, for it being a goal.

is it incorrect because if the shot is in the air and not a bounce shot it's not a possesion loss, so no loose ball?

the exception would be if its in the goalie's stick and it breaks the plane of the goal, its a goal right?

Actually, not quite. If it's in the goalie's stick and the ball completely passes through the plane of the goal while still in the stick, it is not a goal (yet). However, if he drops the ball while it's inside the plane of the goal, it's a goal even though it was not loose when it broke the plane.

so if a goalie is like inside the net and i shoot one off his helmet or something and it comes out its not a goal?

No, the exception applies if the ball enters the goal while in the goalie's stick, no goal as long as he holds on to the ball while it is in the cage. Balls bouncing in off the goalie count as goals, balls hitting the goalie after they score are goals.....

Exactly. The only question is whether it breaks the plane of the goal before hitting the goalie and going back out.

Ok....so what if you are coming up from X around the crease and the d-pole gets in between you and your stick and you lose your stick, meanwhile from the momentum of the stick being knocked out of your hands, the ball goes into the net, but the stick flies onto the ground and lands outside of the crease? Goal right?

Or how about the same situation except for the ball goes into the net, but the stick hits the goalie, and therefore interferes with him saving the ball?

In the first case, I would rule a goal. In the second, there's a whistle as soon as the stick interferes with the goalie (even though I might not get to blow it before the ball goes in the goal) so no goal.
