I'm curious as to why we have to wait just 30 seconds between posts on the forums and a minute in between PM's. I know that if I'm dealing with somone on a trade/sell/buy that I get impatient having to wait a minute for just a few sentences, let alone if I'm trying to deal with more than one person. Any method to the madness?

ask for the kids AIM address, then you can directly talk to him aobut the trade

It's so that If you accidentally hit the submit button twice, it won't post the same thing twice. It's happened to me several times. Be patient. If you are going to one thread posting in it, then going to another one and already trying to post in it, you obviously aren't thinking about it and making sure you are making a thoughtful and productive post.

Yeh, I'm aware of both your points.

TRE - I've dealt with kids who don't have AIM or MSN. I only use AIM and I'm not going to download any other messenger on here.

BigK - My thing is why do PM's take a minute but thread posts take 30 seconds? I think that in order to make a concise, thoughtful post (obviously not everyone takes the time to do that every time) one would think that you should take more time on it. Thankfully we have gotten rid of the visible post counts so that we don't have kids who have over 2,000 posts he or she feels that they need to show off.

Trust me, I can think of a good post in a minute, let alone 30 seconds much like a good chunk of the members of TLF.

I would also guess that it is a way to keep a hacker or spammer from clogging the boards with repeated posts.

Bingo. Besides, whats so darn important that you can't wait 30 seconds to post it? If it takes you less than 30 seconds to post a message, it doesn't contain enough content.

It should also take people 20 seconds to read the thread they are posting in. If you are having a problem in the forums, you arent reading. However, with the PM's i do find it frusterating since when i have multiple deals, i need to shoot off the PM's.... especialy when im just sending a quicke note like my address or AIM, or my pay pal acount. But in the end, waiting an extra 30-60 seconds is not a big deal at all.

Again, I'm not so concerned about the thread count as I am the PM count. I thought i stressed that in the opening post, and again in my response but I guess not.

Maybe just switching the two would work for me, I don't know.

If a hacker was going to spam the forum all he would have to do is post from multiple IPs. It might make it a little bit harder but it's not really going to stop anything. All it's going to do is annoy the good users. I can see maybe a 10 second interval just to stop double posts, but any more isn't going to stop anything.

like today, i was unning two deal in the FS/WTB forum at once, and i kept n hitting the 60 sec wait period. it was really annoying. I dont mind the 30 sec post one, but the PM one i dont like.

I also refuse to install Aim/MSM/Trillian on my PC, so...

No. Guys you have to get over this. Go to any other forum. As long as its professionally run, many of the same rules apply. You're just going to have to live with the severly minor inconvieniances like this. You people act like 30 seconds will mean the difference between life and death. Read the posts in the threads you're going to post in, and this will NEVER be a problem. Calm down, and take a chill pill.

blargh i'm mad about the PM times, not the thread times. argh!

Unfortunately, it happens for all posts/pms. PMs are on the same system as regular posts on VB3 (the forum program), its just that PMs are direct posts to one member.

Now the interval on PMs is annoying, if you're trying to put a PM out to multiple people. But, unfortunately, we have to live with it.

Sorry to bring this up but I cannot stand this!!!! I just got 6 PMs and needed to respond to all of them. It took me 8 minutes just to reply to pms. I know it would be hard but could an admin try to change that to 30 seconds??

Seriously, if you can put out posts in under 30 seconds a piece, you must be posting total crap. And I have had it save me from accidentally double posting countless times.

Well maybe if you took 30 seconds to read the thread you would notice we're not complaining about the post issue. Its the PMs which are double the time of posts.

30 seconds is not nearly a long enough time to read the 20 posts above me. Hell, you must not have even read the first two!

the flow of the thread moved towards pm time once it was figured that 30 for a post isnt bad, but the 60 for a pm isnt too hot.

Alright, I'm just saying that there was discussion of the post time. In fact, I think PM's would be a lot better if people took time. Treat it like an email, not an im.
