I'm sorry if this has been covered, but I did a search and did not find what I was looking for. Before I dye my stick, I have two questions.
1. If I would dye red over yellow, would the red be red or would it be a funky yellow-red mix?
2. I'm using the liquid Rit dye. Can anyone tell me about how much I should use?
Thanks a lot!

To answer your firt question, just make sure the red is darker then the yellow.
And I can't help you with how much dye, I'm not a dyer, I've jsut seen that answer on the boards before.

It depends. If it is a darker red your planning on using, if you keep the head in the dye long enough you should have no problem dyeing over the yellow. If your planning on a lighter red, I would imagine it could possibly come out more orange than red, but if you keep the head in the dye long enough it could probably work.
Also, you should use about 2 boxes of the powder dye. I believe that is the equivalent of 1 container of liquid dye.

It is a darker red. Like Maryland Terps red.
A whole container? Wow. That seems like a lot of dye. I guess that's why people tell you to save it...
EDIT: Yeah, I knew what you meant (to ekajsk8er's post under this one. I didn't want to make a new post just to say that.) Thanks for your help.

You shouldn't have a problem at all dyeing over the yellow, it should be fine.
And I probably should've used the word bottle instead of container. This is what I was talking about: http://www.ritdye.com/store/images/liquid.gif

the hotter the water, the easier it will be to dye completely over it. if you only have it kinda hot, you will get orange.

I kept it on the stove while dying the red over the yellow and it came out great. I'll post pics tomorrow maybe.
Getting that stupid glue off is TORTURE.

I've done "Scarlet Red" over "Golden Yellow" and it worked out fine. I use a windshield washer fluid 4L (err, 1 gallon) container and cut the handle part off. It's just big enough to fit the head in. Fill it with boiling water from the kettle and 1 pkg of RIT and turned out great (not orange).

Yeah I was thinking about doing that. I should have, but it was like 11 last night and I had just finished the yellow. And since it was my first dye, I didn't want to do anything too crazy.
There will be more. I think I've found a new hobby.

Okay, after seeing all these awesome dye jobs I've decided to try one myself, but I got a couple questions. Bare with me guys I'm sure you have anwered these a bunch of times already, but I'm buying a brand new head and doing this as a BD present for someone and I don't want to screw it up ( those heads are expensive enough)
First off, does the dye stain the pot you boil it in real bad, as in use an old pot?
I'm actually doing one very similar to Monzo's, so I was thinking soak the ENTIRE head in yellow, then glue, then red so the yellow show's through. Now from what I've gathered if the dye is hot enough this won't come out orange right?
As for stickers, if I put a number on the side, any stickers will work right? you just seal them on with a hairdryer right??
Is there types of hot glue that peals off better than others??
I think I should be good with it, I'm actually more worried about the colors coming out right. I'm shooting for like a maroon.
Any answers will be appreciated, thanks guys!!

1. Yes. The dye stains EVERYTHING.
2. Right. I dyed the whole head yellow and I used "scarlet red" over it and that's what i got.
3. I don't know about stickers.
4. The glue comes off pretty easily if you run it under cold water. I bite my fingernails, so it was hard to scratch off. My fingernails hurt really badly after I finished.

First of all, if I was your friend, I'd actually appreciate it more if you gave me the receipt and the head instead of a dyed head. At least for me, I'd be much happier with a warranty. You can dye it for me in a year.
With that being said, the metal pot I use does not get stained by the dye once you throw it out, but if I let it sit for too long a residue does build up on the sides. But it can be scrubbed out, so it's hardly a stain. I can't dye metal, basically.
You've basically got everything down, and the only stickers that won't work are the ones which have like a circular or square rim around them (Obviously). but seriously, it took me so long to find just the right stickers, because Target had two rows full of 'em.

Props for the creative title!!
Usually lighter dyes will mix but if one is darker it will predominantly? that color expecially if you put it on second.
